Yeah, and I mean, I worked for a national magazine that, toward the end of my time there, was writing more and more often about fan culture and incorporating elements of fan culture into their pieces, usually just talking about fanficcers and whatnot, but I saw it more and more frequently. And as much as they pretended they got it, there was NO WAY I was going to out myself as a creator, because I knew that they still mocked it in private. So these poor misguided people who think sending in a fic to EW is going to make them famous and it's cool and all…well, maybe they will be famous. But everyone's still mocking you behind your back. They think we're weirdos and creeps, for the most part. But they know that publishing something about fandom will get them hits, and get them more revenue.

And only a few of the actors or writers or producers are our people. Just because a few of them are, doesn't mean the rest of them don't see us as a little creepy or weird or hilarious--but they'll get money appearing at cons, so.
