Yes, I am fascinated by the changes in language as well.
Some drive me mad - Italian is losing the conjunctive, for example, which means a great loss in terms of potential expressiveness and subtlety.
However, all or most languages move towards simplification. Which allegedly seems to be a good thing ~g~
