Here's a smile for my The Wire friends!

For my Wire fan friends, I thought I'd share this little bit of Joy with you that I found when I was capturing clips for a vid for Escapade. Clarke Peters, who plays Lester Freamon in The Wire, and who is one of everyone's favorite characters, suddenly popped up on screen in the least likely place I could have imagined -- The Professionals, the beloved British TV series from the late 1970s. At first I was all, "Is that Lester??!! and then the more the episode unspooled, the more amused I was. He's very young! And he plays the president of an African country who's under threat of assassination, so Bodie and Doyle are trying to protect him. Never would these two series have connected in any way. I just love seeing familiar faces in old things!

Lester (Clarke Peters) now, in season 1 of The Wire.

Lester then, ca. 1980. So young, and lookit the touching! He and Martin Shaw seem to touch rather a lot.

A slightly better picture. There was touching going on before this, too.

And as a special treat, baby Charles Dance, who plays a very bad South African man.

And also, someone gave me baby lamas!! There are two of them! And hugging teddy bears! Thank you, anonymous giftee giver.

OMG< that would be so excellent if it is true! I so don't trust that it's WB, because they fucked up the LFN thing so monumentally, but I will keep my figners crossed that maybe there's hope.

Ain't Clarke brilliant, and sooo young, in Pros?! I managed to make the connection the first ep of The Wire I watched, but I reckon that's because a) I've watched Ojuka waaayyyy too many times and b) we'd recently seen Clarke in a West End production of Chicago playing Billy Flynn.

I think this is one of the bad things about my history as a feral Pros fan wandering in the wilderness all those years ago. The CBC channel we saw Pros on back in '78-'79 showed only up to Mickey Hamilton, and it was a different airing order than the discs and the fannish copies on tape that were distributed for a long time. So I know those early eps by heart, but I don't know the rest very well at all. I think I've seen Ojuka maybe three times, and I never ever would have made that connection without clip capturing!

I sure would love to see him do more. I was also tickled to find out he was in Outland and a few other favorites, so now I'll have to go back and watch things I haven't seen in years.

We so totally need to get together and watch this!

I'm still kicking myself for not watching that CBC run of Pros back in the day. Except that I was 12/13 at the time, it aired at midnight in our market and my mum would never have let me stay up to watch it. (A slightly older friend who did watch it on the Ceeb, with her dad, has only vague memories of it. "One of them was a boxer, right?" was her only comment. Proves she remembers the credit sequence, anyway.)

Shall have to rewatch Outland for the Clarke bits. Oooh, and Between the Lines. I've been looking for an excuse to get second season of that.
