I had much the same reaction as I have to all the Avengers/Cap movies since Age of Ultron -- *love* many moments and character notes, *hate* the plot. I saw someone on Tumblr rate the movie as 9/10 for entertainment, 1/10 for plot and story. That's spot on for me. But that's OK because I mentally discard the plot of all the ensemble movies after Winter Soldier! "I reject your reality and substitute my own" as the Mythbusters used to say.
Endgame had a LOT of wonderful character moments, way more than most of the ensemble movies, so for that reason it's my favorite of them all after the original Avengers. I loved the idea that they had to go back in time to retrieve the stones, since it gave them a chance to revisit some old favorite moments. Enormous kudos to the movie makers for bringing back *scores* of people, some of whom were on screen for literally just seconds. That's beautiful fan service and I thank them.
As for the time stuff, I like to think that my family is pretty smart, and none of us could figure out the rules of how it was supposed to work. We discussed that more than anything else after the movie. And going by what I see on the Internet nobody else could figure it out either.
