It's funny--I always though fiction editing was the holy grail, and a lot of my students did when I was teaching in the editing certificate program, but I'm definitely soured on it. I mean, it's also really bad pay, which I never minded too much in the sense of they'll send you a lot of work etc. but it's tough work sometimes, when they're expecting a copyeditor to fix things that should have been fixed if editors actually did their jobs with authors anymore. I've had to practically rewrite people's books, and I just...ain't nobody got time for that anymore.
