The people have spoken, dammit
Okay, so I thought ticky box would win by a mile in the "what vid should I do next" poll. At the 11th hour, though, the humorous BtVS/Ats all cast vid pulled ahead by a vote (though there's still time to vote and get me out of this mess!). I was actually kind of happy about ticky box winning, because then that meant I didn't have to do anything. But I was surprised and unhappy about the humorous vid winning the votes (which I didn't expect by a long chalk), because even though I know my f-list is quite Buffy-centric, the truth is, I am Buffied and Angeled out a little bit right now. See, there *will* be new vids for those fandoms, but they have to wait until August, after they've premiered at VVC. If you voted for those because you just wanted Buffyverse vids... damn you! ::shakes fist in your direction::
The truth is, it's a horribly daunting project -- tons of clips to capture from gajillions of seasons, two different forms of aspect ratios... and of course, gotta make it funny. I don't even really want to do it except that I do, eventually, but it tires me just thinking about it. And of course, now I'm thinking, hmmm... daunting project... humor... Buffy and Angel... I need to collaborate with
sherrold! No, Sandy, don't run. It'll be fun, really. Honest. Let me play you the song... stop screaming!
But there is a wrinkle in the poll. I have been threatened with bodily harm by someone who wants the Deadwood all-cast vid. And I have no doubt at all that she will hurt me if I don't do it. So I'm weighing votes vs. physical pain, and I'm sure you can tell which one wins in this case. Also, when I asked my frequent vid collaborator,
feochadn, what I should work on next, she barked, "Deadwood." And when she barks at me like that, I tend to listen. Unlike my friends who have tats and piercings and such, I don't really enjoy physical pain.
I'm also afraid I don't know how to do something funny right now, at least not on my own, so I really will have to collaborate with someone on a humor vid. Every day is so bleak to me right now, and I have to force myself to post here, to interact with people, to try to make myself seem normal because everyone has forgotten about my sister and they are all with the "move on, already" and have no patience for me if I'm not behaving the accepted way. I have no idea what's really funny anymore, what's just *fun*, and making a deathly serious, kind of tragic vid feels more cathartic, more possible. Something I understand and can embrace. Whereas humor and light and farce seem... utterly foreign at this point.
Anyway. I was surprised by the strong showing for Keen Eddie. I had no idea so many people were interested, and I'm pleased. The reaction to a Hornblower vid with Pellew didn't surprise me, though -- that fandom is all Archie, Archie, Archie, and I'm so not, so we are unmixy. That one's perpetually on my list, though. And Due South got a lot more votes than I expected, especially since I am not a Ray K fan at all, and that seems to be where most of the interest is.
The spooky Giles vid came in a close second behind the humor Buffyverse vid and ticky box. This is one I've had on my plate for a really long time, but in the while that I've sat on it, I've seen more than a few vids come up with this song. It's not a terrifically common song, but it seems to have struck a chord with people, and now I'm afeared of looking like a lemming if I do it. Song choice is so important to me, I really don't like using things that show up frequently elsewhere, let alone in my own fandoms... but I haven't watched any of these vids, and I'm still not certain whether I should let it deter me or not. I love my idea and I think it could be really creepy and cool, but... people will use this song.

Which is why I voted for Brotherhood of the Wolf. It's very freeing to vid with so little source to agonize over. *g*
Seriously, though, do what moves you in the moment, because that's what'll make *you* happiest.

Switching topics, but anyone who thinks you should "move on" based on their schedule can really just STFU and go away. You have to do what you have to do, and you will get through this in the way that works for YOU.

Actually vid Deadwood. I voted for DW and tickybox because I am unable to *see* a ticky box and not click it because FUN! TICKY BOX!!! If you don't click on a ticky box labeled ticky box it is like snarling at a puppy.

I wouldn't be 100% sure of that -- dS seems to be going through something of a revival right now and I don't think any small part of that is the fact that s1 and s2 are now on DVD. I'm betting there are *plenty* of people out there who would appreciate any dS videos at all.

People keep saying there's a DS rennaissance (for years now!), but wherever I look, it's always Ray K they talk about. I actually gave my first DVD, which had my and Sandy's vid Stranded on it, to someone and she said, "Oh! Due South!" then very suspiciously, "Which Ray?" which is a question I despise, and when I said Vecchio, she actually said "Ew!" and pulled her fingers away, holding it between her index and thumb, as if she was getting shit all over her hand. I could not believe it. So me and the fandom never got mixy there, either. Plus, I remember the Ray wars from back in the early days, and I have scars and PTSD about it.
I wonder if I could make a real vid about a ticky box?

Ray Wars - yes, I have heard tell of them for years now and it actually kept me from watching the show for a very long time because I need yet another insane fandom like I need a hole in the head - but I have no long term resistance apparently. And I do adore Kowalski because he pings a lot of my own personal tells - but I also adore Vecchio because he too pings a ton of my personal tells and also? Is Angel. Seriously - a defining moment of my life is in that gym with Ray and Zucko and the Belt. Gah.
So, you know - barometers of taste and all that, but my opinion is that if someone looked at my Ray V vid and said "Ew" and it was about Ray (and not about my vid cause lord knows there is plenty to ew in the vid that is just my fault) - fuck her opinion. It is no longer valid to me.

Oh yeah. Ohhhh yeeeeaaaahhhh. Man, that was incredible. Made me love Vecchio all the more. I totally understood him -- his constant griping as a mask for his own dissatisfaction with himself, his insecurities manifesting themselves as aggressiveness, his simmering anger... he was definitely someone I understood on a cellular level. The scene where I knew he was exactly me was when he told Frannie that a guy like Fraser would never love a girl like her. I always thought he was talking about himself there (Sandy and I talked about that at length when she was feeding me episodes), and it just cuts me to the bone.

You go, girl! "I'm so not" either *g*
Anything Keen Eddie, Buffy or Angel would make me a happy camper.

Oh, hell's bells. I haven't been reading LJ for a while, so I missed this. But I wanted to say I'm entirely with you in the Pellew camp. So if you ever make this vid, count me in.
But anything you make I will want to see. You know this, right?

Unsolicited Advice
Re: Unsolicited Advice
And it's not like... um... I don't grotesquely over-capture anyway. I ended up with 210 fairly big clips for my Wonderfalls vid, which had probably more separate images than normal. I used about 60. ::hangs head::
Re: Unsolicited Advice
Glad to hear this project has specific imagery needs. Anything that can help you narrow it down...
