Blues update #2

After I posted the update last night, Blues went downhill at a really fast clip, and I was afraid he wouldn't make it through the night, or if he did, it would be like Emma where he was miserable and struggling until I could take him in in the morning. At one point, I checked on him and thought he was dead; at another, I thought he ws really dead until I picked him up and then he moved his head, but just barely. Needless to say, there wasn't exactly any sleep being had by the humans.

I finally stopped bothering him in the wee hours, and drifted off a little, when I felt a tail brush my face and a trilling sound. I thought for sure it had to be Olive even though that is not her noise. But then I heard him in his litter box (I've had his food, litter, and water in my bedroom to keep him separated from Ollie, even though he kept trying to eat her food), and he trilled some more. At that point, I kind of fell asleep, I guess because I felt like maybe there was some hope.

This morning I heard much hissing and spitting, and then I got up and couldn't find him, but when I went out there was Olive, eagerly waiting to be fed. Then Blues came out from somewhere, I'm not sure, batting his little hot pink koosh ball around, and acting as if nothing had ever happened.

He played all morning, kept eating Ollie's food, kept trying to get near her and she hissed and snarled, ran around like he was on fire, fetched his ball endlessly, helped me make the bed, submitted to much petting and loving, played some more, then promptly fell asleep in my lap. He stayed there until I went out at lunch to get him some loafy type kitten food, since he keeps trying to eat Olive's but only licks the gravy off the stuff I'd gotten with his "new kitty packet." He also pissed Olive off by using her litterbox right in front of her! The nerve!

The doctor said his blood work shows only an elevated white blood cell count, so I'm going to go pick up some antibiotics tonight. He seems otherwise fine. It is very strange and awful, how they can be at death's door so inexplicably like that. And kind of miraculous that they can turn around so fast. Thank god.

Yay! Glad to hear it.

I'm so glad to hear that he's doing better.

I can't tell you how relieved I was to read this post. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that last night was the worst of it and that he'll only continue to get better from here on out.

Oh, I second that! I've been holding my breath, hoping things would turn out okay. May he just get better and healthier. (Hugs) :)

I'm so glad to hear he seems to be fine. Hopefully whatever it was has well and truly passed.

Can't wait to meet Mr. Blues!

Holy cow. I'm so glad to hear this, and I am continuing to send him (and you) all good thoughts.

(My icon kitty was fairly ill as a kitten, and we never found out why, either. He's fine now.)

I'm so glad to hear the good news. He's a beautiful cat.

Oh, I am so incredibly happy about this! I've had the very sick kitten that I had just gotten attached to who died out of the blue not once, but twice, and it's heartbreaking. Well, okay, neither was out of the blue, but they were both things I couldn't have prevented, and I still remember them both.

I'm so glad! And give Ollie and Blue at *least* a few weeks to settle in a bit together. It sounds like he's overcome any fear, so now it's her turn. *g*

Yay, I'm SO glad he's feeling better!

I'm sending best hopes for continued good health for Blues! He's such a cutie!

Glad to hear he's better (and I can't wait to see him!). Olive's reactions sound *exactly* like Connie and Roland's relationship. He adored her, she thought he was a pain in the ass. It took them months to straighten it out, but eventually they got along great.

I am so glad he seems to be on the mend.

Oh, I'm so glad to know he's doing better! Thank goodness for the resiliency of wee kittens.

Oh, yay!

And yeah, I don't get how they go from just fine to 911 in like 30 minutes. It's freaky as all hell, and there's just no way to know what caused it.

This has been really scary and nerve-wracking even to read about, and I'm just so relieved that he's doing okay now.

I'm SO relieved to hear he's doing better! Sounds a lot like what happened to Oliver a couple of months ago, and he's been fine since.

Yay for getting-well kitty!

Meanwhile, Olive will come around in due time, as right now she's still in the "you means I have to share my mommeh with the new guy?? oh, nooooez!" stage.

[identity profile] killabeez.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad. I was so afraid to hear the opposite. {{{{{hugs you tight}}}}}

I'm so relieved! It's so nerve-wracking to watch and be helpless. My cat is sleeping at the moment, but even when he's awake and a regular psychotic biting bastard, I am so happy he's in my life.

(Hope you get in some kwality sleep time with him snuggled.)

[identity profile] gamiila.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Great news. I couldn't be happier for you (& Blues).

I'm so glad he's doing better! Cats seem to be set for "go" and "stop" when it comes to being sick.

He sounds like a loveable boy. Olive might warm to him yet.

I just got caught up on all of this--my LJ world is still stuck sometime on Monday--and I'm so glad he started doing better. Hope all is still well. He sounds like such a sweetie.

Very, very happy to hear that he's doing so much better! It's terrifying how animals can go from apparently fine to death's door in a blink, but it's marvelous he managed the reverse as well! (The pictures are adorable!)
