Blues update #2

After I posted the update last night, Blues went downhill at a really fast clip, and I was afraid he wouldn't make it through the night, or if he did, it would be like Emma where he was miserable and struggling until I could take him in in the morning. At one point, I checked on him and thought he was dead; at another, I thought he ws really dead until I picked him up and then he moved his head, but just barely. Needless to say, there wasn't exactly any sleep being had by the humans.
I finally stopped bothering him in the wee hours, and drifted off a little, when I felt a tail brush my face and a trilling sound. I thought for sure it had to be Olive even though that is not her noise. But then I heard him in his litter box (I've had his food, litter, and water in my bedroom to keep him separated from Ollie, even though he kept trying to eat her food), and he trilled some more. At that point, I kind of fell asleep, I guess because I felt like maybe there was some hope.
This morning I heard much hissing and spitting, and then I got up and couldn't find him, but when I went out there was Olive, eagerly waiting to be fed. Then Blues came out from somewhere, I'm not sure, batting his little hot pink koosh ball around, and acting as if nothing had ever happened.
He played all morning, kept eating Ollie's food, kept trying to get near her and she hissed and snarled, ran around like he was on fire, fetched his ball endlessly, helped me make the bed, submitted to much petting and loving, played some more, then promptly fell asleep in my lap. He stayed there until I went out at lunch to get him some loafy type kitten food, since he keeps trying to eat Olive's but only licks the gravy off the stuff I'd gotten with his "new kitty packet." He also pissed Olive off by using her litterbox right in front of her! The nerve!
The doctor said his blood work shows only an elevated white blood cell count, so I'm going to go pick up some antibiotics tonight. He seems otherwise fine. It is very strange and awful, how they can be at death's door so inexplicably like that. And kind of miraculous that they can turn around so fast. Thank god.

Date: 2008-01-29 09:42 pm (UTC)I'm so glad! And give Ollie and Blue at *least* a few weeks to settle in a bit together. It sounds like he's overcome any fear, so now it's her turn. *g*

Date: 2008-01-29 10:41 pm (UTC)And yeah, I don't get how they go from just fine to 911 in like 30 minutes. It's freaky as all hell, and there's just no way to know what caused it.
