What is wrong with people?

I ask that mostly as a rhetorical question, but seriously, if anyone can answer that, I'd like to know. I rarely get comments anymore on anything from AO3 now that the kudos button is around, so I get a little excited when I do get the stray comment. And I'm a person who's open to someone pointing out issues or whatever in a comment, as long as they're not doing it to shame me or whatever. I believe that if you're putting things out in the world, you should have enough spine to take criticism.

But what the hell do you do when some assface leaves you a comment like this? "I clicked on this video because I thought it was 'a girl worth fighting for' and I was sad when it wasn't." (This was for my Avengers vid Worth Fighting For.)

Do you delete it? Respond with a witty put-down (if so, please provide me with a witty put-down)? Ask them what the hell is wrong with them?

I'm really curious. I am just flabbergasted that someone took the time to leave such a stupid, insulting comment. People don't even take the time to leave you compliments anymore!

In other irritating news, yesterday I finally got around to replacing my water filter cartridge under the sink. I hate doing this, so I avoid it until the water comes out in this thin trickle that takes about five minutes to fill a glass halfway. The cartridge never wants to come out easily, and yesterday when it finally came loose, it smashed my little finger really bad, and it now matches my vibrant purple robe and is really swollen. I tried icing it immediately and putting arnica cream on, but nothing's really helped. I see these two tiny bumps on the knuckle and I kind of wonder if they might be loose pieces of bone. Shit, I really don't want to have X-rays again, this past year I've been bombarded with X-rays for so many things, but I've been told before something wasn't broken or cracked or whatever, and then it healed the wrong way. I guess I'll nurse it a while and see. It's definitely making it hard to type!

The only reasonable response to that is sarcasm, I think. Lots and lots of sarcasm because, really, that's a complete waste of their time and yours and is just asking for a verbal kick. /two cents

The only appropriate response under those circumstances is, "Thanks for sharing."

This is good! Shorter, perhaps -- "Thought this comment was worth reading. I was wrong."

But seriously, Gwyn. How stunning and frustrating...

Or you could just go with "Sucks to be you," as sarcasm might be lost on this one.

That could just be part of the swelling? But if ice isn't helping, x-rays might give you more peace of mind. Or you could splint it without x-rays, which might make it happier as it healed (though possibly making the rest of you less so).

To be honest, although I would fume and rant and think of all the nasty replies I want to give to the commenter, in the end I would leave it alone like the turd it is and not bother dignifying it with a response. But I know what you mean: no one leaves comments anymore, so the fact that someone went out of their way to leave that one is just... mindboggling and rage-inducing!

Wow, what an utterly shitty response. I'd go with the ignoring or I liked the "Thanks for sharing." Because everyone looking at the comments can see what an asshat that was and you get to take the higher road (and can snark here :)

HUGS

Ughh just ignore it. Sometimes people just vent in a dumb way. I get stuff like that on my Youtube vids and it's better to just let it go as some person just letting out a worthless thought. It says nothing about your vid (which is awesome!).

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, in hindsight I should have ignored it, but i always want people to know they're wrong!

[identity profile] morgandawn.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
how about "I clicked on this comment because I thought it was worth reading and I was sad when it wasn't."

[identity profile] killabeez.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Perfect.

[identity profile] nwhepcat.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! I was thinking of something along the same lines, only mine was "because I thought it was about my vid...")

People. Sigh.

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I used this. And then the dumbfuck came back and told me I was so rude, and I told her back that rude was what she had done, and then she got on this crazed high horse about how she had a right to do whatever she wanted. That she just felt she had to share, apparently, and that she wasn't trying to make anyone feel bad and got really snotty -- I kept telling her to go away, but she just wouldn't. So I deleted everything. I fucking hate people.

I think that person is trolling for attention and would ignore it. Sorry to hear about your finger.

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I should have in hindsight. It didn't go well.

[identity profile] killabeez.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Owww. I hate smashing my fingers! (I know, shocking.) *sympathy*

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
morgandawn beat me for the witty comeback (that's the one I had in mind, too) - but I wouldn't take it too serious, it's probably a totally self-absorbed teenager with a brain/output-filter malfunction, who just has not developed the capacity to think outside her 'the world according to my pov' yet. ;)

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely self-absorbed. She got in a high-horse argument with me about how she had a right to go around sharing her FEEEEELINGs even when they're shitty. I should have just deleted it all.

[identity profile] nikitangel.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the person was hoping it was a vid set to the song "A Girl Worth Fighting For" from the movie Mulan? That's what I thought when I read it at first. Maybe they were just being dumb, but not necessarily mean.

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they were both dumb AND mean. She ended up being quite a shithead and wouldn't go away no matter how much I asked her to. Just ended up deleting it all. People are really creepy sometimes.

[identity profile] trepkos.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd delete the idiot! But then, my tolerance for idiots is shrinking by the day.
So long as hitting delete doesn't hurt your poor finger.

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I should have, but she just kept coming back. I finally got rid of the whole thing, but it definitely made me feel crappy for a long time. I don't really do well with psycho shitheads, they affect me more than I wish they did.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I've found while posting on other media, not to answer stupid comments. Other people reading all the entries often can't distinguish which one of the commenters is the idiot. And often they tell you to quit attacking the person who was only making an innocent comment.

It's a lose/lose situation...

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-18 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, it's lose/lose. I have a hard time letting things like that go, though -- I always want people to understand that they're WRONG.

[identity profile] overnightexpres.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
i have noticed that most of stupid/weird comments comes from school aged children, The Web is much younger than it used to be,.

you may assume that it is full of reasonable adults, but it is not.

it became kinder-garden and there is so many people who don't realize that "new wave". :).

you cannot even imagine how many comments are left by 8-9-10-13 year old kids.

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-19 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
It was definitely hard to tell how old she/he was -- she felt this need, apparently, to share her FEEEELINGS about not finding what she wanted, and then got all high horsey about her right to shit on other people's stuff. I really hate people a lot of the time.

[identity profile] soundingsea.livejournal.com 2013-04-08 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, 50% of people are even dumber than average.

On the bright side, the fact that you posted this means I watched that vid, and really enjoyed it! So, there's something. :)

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2013-04-19 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you found the vid! And that you liked it! Yay for that. So at least one good thing came out of it.
