Catching up...

I promised download links to the two Vividcon vids--hallo spaceboy and dangerous--when I returned from Chicago, but then I fell down the hole of trying to finish my Stucky Big Bang fic on time, so they never went up. For the, like, two people who want to download higher res files, you can find them both at my vids site now. The spaceboy DL is pretty large, but that was the lowest size I could get without completely losing quality, for some reason. (I think my site is not viewable on mobile devices and some other things make it hard to access; I don't know what or why, and I don't really have the knowledge to know how to fix it. If anyone might be interested in helping me figure out how to fix it so it's more accessible, I'd love to talk to you, maybe I could pay you in a vid or fic.)

Man, it's one thing to expect a fic to do poorly but it's another thing for it to bomb completely. I feel so sorry for my artist, throwing in with me. Anyone who collaborates with me, really; they could pick literally anyone else in fandom and get more recognition or responses on their work.

I've had some run-ins with truly wretched customer service and support lately, and I'm just…I never feel quite so alone and hopeless as I do when confronted with people who expect me to solve problems I'm not in any way capable of solving on my own/too disabled by my back to do/don't have tool or skill sets and are then just fed up or plain nasty at me for it. And I'd really rather not pay astronomical sums for the privilege of their help, but I'm kind of stuck, and they make you feel so small for being floored by what they want to make you pay.

I cannot find rumchata anywhere in this fucking town. But I did learn where to get an actual cruller in this fucking hipster donut infested asshole city, so that's one thing. (Seriously, if you ever think your city is infested with idiotic hipsters, come to Seattle or Portland and we'll quickly disabuse you of that notion. They're like termites or rodents of unusual size.)

Did you check Total Wine or BevMo? BevMo's in Ballard; that may be closer for you than Total Wine (I can't remember where that is in Seattle; I know the one across from Alderwood Mall better.)

Let me know if you can't find it and I can get you a bottle from the Lynnwood Total Wine.

Yay! I'm glad you were able to find a bottle and more. :-) I wonder if you could just freeze some and have it that way?

sorry I haven't read your BB story - it's on my list, and I hope to start it tomorrow (too late to begin tonight)

come to Seattle or Portland and we'll quickly disabuse you of that notion. They're like termites or rodents of unusual size SO much this! one just can't get away from then - it's astounding how they infest every single neighborhood in PDX anymore.

It can be crushing when a work falls into seemingly into a void, especially if it took a lot of work. FWIW I've downloaded your Big Bang fic on my ereader but haven't gotten around to it among the other Steve/Bucky fics posted.

BTW, currently your website doesn't respond at all for me.

If I could deliver another cruller to you, I totally would. *HUGS*

PS Same re big bang! totally the wrong time for release - I have them all queued up but HELLO UNIVERSITY STARTS, which lets out the teachers and students who are HALF OF FANDOM. Not to mention everyone on late-august family labor day weekend vacations (who is not me)

It's a timing issue, not you!

Don't assume - people open tabs on this sort of thing, which registers as a hit but the story hasn't been read; people download onto their Kindles etc.

Argh, I'm sorry that you had such a cluster of bad. :(

Is this Apple tech support? They are pretty high on themselves, always were, but they're still techs in a call center; maybe there's another avenue to fix the problem?

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2016-08-31 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's a couple of people, just household things and the ISP I have for my work web site and the vids site. Not that I think Apple is all that great.

Ah, that's too bad. :(

Dude, there are so many big bang stories that were posted all at once that all I can say is, maybe be patient...there's a lot of sorting through to do, there, for the average reader. A lot. They are all huge stories. I feel overwhelmed by sheer mass of words, and I *love* huge stories.

Oh I know, it's just…between the creation-date shit where AO3's draft creation date is how it's sorted and it got dumped into the collection with the week-old listings, and then no RSS feed, it's disappeared. I think I told you at VVC I was expecting it to be unfavorably compared to another fic, and then the ending I wrote I was pretty sure people would hate, so…no surprises for me. I am just really heartsick because I put the artist as a co-creator so she could see kudos and comments, and instead all she's seen is two comments after over 1,000 hits, and I think that's got to be disappointing to her. She was kinda excited about seeing all the kudos and comments. Especially with the Sucky Library mods reneging on their promise to feature the fics on the "front page"--I don't see that changing in the future.

Thanks much for the links! <3

I have so many fics bookmarked for reading right now it will take months to clear them, and the bb works are all so much and so long, so perhaps just hang on in there? *hugs*

[identity profile] gwyn-r.livejournal.com 2016-08-31 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really think it'll change, to be honest--there's this insanely irritating shit that AO3 pulls where the creation date will affect a fic getting posted (it appeared in the middle of the Aug. 24 fics, which was days and days behind where people were probably reading), and then the RSS feeds won't pick it up…I'm just really heartsick for my artist, who I made a co-creator so she could see the kudos and comments. It's got to be so incredibly disappointing to her. I warned her I wasn't BNF enough to get people to come read it on my own, but I'd really hoped her incredible art might lure people in.
