anniversary ow

soundingsea's post about her anniversary on LJ that I'd completely forgotten my own, but when I went back to check, I found out it was today! So, happy anniversary to me and to soundingsea. I confess, when I started this, I was beyond dubious, especially as I felt that it was a conversation-killer, but merryish convinced me otherwise. And I'm glad she hammered through my prejudices -- while there have certainly been bad times that I think the LJ format amplifies (such as the LFN ship manifesto the other day), overall, I've met some truly amazing people here, which was really brought home to me when I lost my job earlier this year.
Now if I could just get someone to get rid of my pleurisy, I would think LJ has magical powers. Gah, I hate this; talk about pain, it's like having cracked ribs and really just a stupid, stupid illness. I remember the first time I got it, I was describing my pain to my mom, who had just completed her first chemo rounds and so was really addle-brained and dorky. She said, "That sounds like pleurisy," and I laughed, because first, she was dingy, and second, who the hell got something like pleurisy in this day and age? It sounded like the vapors or consumption or something, a quaint name for an illness that everyone knows how to cure, now. My doctor told me to call if it doesn't get better, but then she'll give me steroids, which I don't want to take again. I talk fast and talk a lot on any given day; with steroids, I sound like Fred on speed, and it's not a pretty sight to behold. I'm supposed to rest, but there's no time for that! Mostly I want to lie down and whimper, but lying down and whimpering actually hurt more than standing and sucking it up. So no whimpering for moi.
