I got a digital camera for Christmas and I keep forgetting, when I walk up to the store at lunch, to bring it with me so I can show people the spectacular view I have when the weather is clear and the Olympic mountains are out in all their glory. It lasts only for a few blocks, but it's pretty nice. I live up the hill from a couple of parks (one small, one huge) and have started my walking program again so I can fit into the dress I bought for Vividcon, and it's light out now. Today I ventured over to my ex's house to see if they'd gotten the tree out from his roof (the poor guy, he and new wifey had just gotten their house remodel move completed, with it off the trusses and starting to look like a house again, when we had a huge storm and a tree fell on the roof, the one part of the house they weren't redoing yet), which is just up the street from the park. There was the most spectacular cloud formation today; I've never seen anything like it. I took some really neat pics of it, especially for [livejournal.com profile] mlyn because I know she loves them clouds.

I took all these pics on my trip to California, and of course the really cool clouds today. And I cannot for the life of me get LJ to let me upload them here. It keeps saying there's an error (FAIL: no content window?) with Java, but this is not explained, and then when I click okay it gives me the dialog box that says where to insert image from, but neither scrapbook (where I've uploaded the images) nor from file (where all the images are on my desktop) will let me put them up. I don't get what's going wrong (other than that I'm being punished for using Safari) and why this seems to be easy (click this, click that) and yet impossible to do. It seems to work for everyone else. The activity window says there's a connect to host error, but I have no idea what that is, let alone what that has to do with just uploading a file from my desktop, and everything else appears to be all connecty. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? (I'm using the web interface, btw, but I don't have the pop-up blocker enabled right now).

I know LJ has been having more errors as of late, such as trying to post comment responses from email. Sounds like this might be the culprit, but without looking at it I can't be sure. Can you make a support request or see if the problem is already known about?

Also, can you upload the pics to your webspace, then use image tags in your entry?

Yay cloud pics! *Beamy*

Oh look, email from you.

If you want, I could temporarily put the pics on my webspace and give you links to use.

I wish I had answers for you. I use Firefox and have not had the trouble you describe. In a pinch, if you get totally fed up, you can try http://www.flickr.com -- it's a pretty easy photohosting site. But I can see why it would make life easier to just use the lj interface, so grr.

Walks sound wonderful, though. And clouds, and the Olympic mountains.

Well, I didn't want to type the fucking URLs for 12 pictures. That's more work than I wanted to go to, especially when technically I should only have to click on the insert image tag. it means I have to upload photos *again* when I just got done putting them in the effing scrapbook. It takes for fucking ever and I really don't feel like trying to put them up again, find out the exact URL of all of them, and then try again when none of the options seem to be working. I can't see the URL one working any better than the from file or scrapbook, neither of which are performing correctly.

God, this is so fucking frustrating. everyone else in the world can do this, but apparently not me.

Well, I have web space, but I didn't want to upload the photos *again* after spending a half hour uploading them to the LJ scrapbook, which doesn't seem to be able to allow me to put them up. Apparently I'm the only person on LJ this doesn't work for. I'm so frustrated I could scream and no one knows what I'm talking about, and the error message doesn't come up on a google search for me.

If they're in your scrapbook, try this:

Go to your galleries index (http://pics.livejournal.com/manage/gals)

Click on your gallery name.

On the left-hand column, you should see the name of the gallery, a sample picture, and a series of links. Click on the link that says "Pictures." (http://pics.livejournal.com/manage/pics?gal=2)

Now check the checkboxes for the pictures you want to post, and click the "Post selected photos to journal" button.

You'll see a page where you can change the tags or layouts (eg how the picture/caption is situated, and the size of the thumbnail). Do what you will, then click the "Continue" button at the bottom.

The pictures code is automatically inserted into a new journal entry field.

Does that help?

This seems to have worked -- thank you! It's not exactly what I had in mind, but it'll do (I couldn't get rid of the pic titles, for instance) I still get a java error, but once I figured out that this one would let me cancel it instead of only offering me okay, I could work around it.

I just don't get it. which means I should probably stop trying to share pics...

Yeah, I have no idea why you're getting a Java error. But lately I've been using Firefox, so it might be a Safari problem. *sigh* I'm glad it worked, anyway!

Scrapbook is still completely ass-backwards, but at least my repeated attempts at trying things have enabled me to find my way through it.
