gwyn: (vids)
[personal profile] gwyn
I should probably be doing other things or going to bed since I have a million things to do on Saturday, but instead I felt like posting only I didn't have nothin' to say... so I did the recent vidding meme going around because vidding is on top of my brainberg right now.
Sorry for the no cut -- I cannot get the fucking cut text to work.

Your software:
Right now I'm using Final Cut Pro HD, which I think is version 6.0, with assistance from Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, and Quicktime.

Favorite video:
Wow, can any vidder ever answer this question for real? I guess my favorite of my solo vids is probably my X-Files vid Fall in the Light, or maybe my Wes/Lilah vid Valentine Heart. I have no idea. My favorite contribution with the Media Cannibals is A Fire Is Burning for Professionals, and of my frequent collaborations with [livejournal.com profile] feochadn, possibly Darkness, Darkness for Miracles.

Least favorite video:
One of the last vids I made on VCRs was a La Femme Nikita vid to Madonna's Live To Tell. It turned out to not be anything like I wanted it to be due to the original series ending that left me feeling so bad about the show before I finished it. So I think a lot about going back and not just remastering it, but remaking it with new tech and editing abilities and some distance.

A video that got surprisingly good feedback, but you are not completely satisfied with it:
Hm. Maybe my first completely new vid on a computer, a Spike/Buffy vid to I Shall Believe. I didn't know much of what I was doing and the source is crappy tapes, too.

A video you like a lot that didn't get the good reaction you were expecting:
The Lindsey/Angel vid Blood/Lust. Or maybe the Life on Mars vid I'm Immortal. Both of them seemed to disappear.

Best song/video combo (the song you chose was just perfect for the theme):
Probably There's No Way Out of Here for Buffy/Scully/Nikita. I think that's a huge reason it's so popular.

Video you had the most fun with:
Santa Monica, on my own. I just was so ready to make a vid about Spike moving on. (Though with the Cannibals, I don't know that I've ever had as much fun as when we made Detachable Penis. I think me, Sandy, and Alex were nearly drunk with the fun on that one.)

Video you had trouble editing because of the song:
Fall in the Light was a true challenge -- I made it before we were able to rip songs to computer, so I had to make a cassette recording from the original CD because I needed to fade in the 30-second opening buildup, which I could do on my CD player. The song also has extreme dynamic range differences, starting out incredibly soft, and gradually building to a louder finish. This made the finished master tape really hard to hear and frustrated many people. Thank god for digital remakes!

A video you'd like to remaster:
Oh, almost my whole catalog from VCRs. Obviously this question was written for people who have only vidded on a computer. Sheesh.

Most inspired sequence you made:
I guess possibly the musical flourishes still images in After Rain -- I wanted to mimic the blended, black and white aged photo montages they used in the opening credits for Band of Brothers. People seemed to think they *were* from the credits, so I guess it worked.

Movie/show you have most enjoyed using for a video:
Deadwood. It is just so unbelievably gorgeous, with shots that look like they were created by Vermeer or Rembrandt.

Pet peeves (stuff you often see around in vids that makes you go wtf):
Ha ha. Let me count... no, see, I can't answer this because then I wouldn't stop. I just really hate amateurish and long talky-face clips because the "vidder" doesn't know any better. I hate effects for effects' sake and relatedly people who really just make a lot of showoffy stuff that doesn't have any there there. Yeah, you're a tech wizard, whatevs.

Aw, thank you so much, sweetie! Do you ever have vids where you know other people like them, but you're disappointed in them? That's how this one is, and I can never figure it out. Long live Spuffy.

Oh definitely. I don't think I'll ever like "I Don't Care As Long As You Sing" all that much. And yet I've gotten really wonderful comments about it. Who knows!
