Aaaaand today I wrote Bucky/Peggy - test here.

So this leads me to a question, having never written commentfic before--what do people do with them? Just leave them there, post to their tumblrs, post them to AO3? And if you do post to AO3, do you treat each one individually, or do you lump them together into one work?

For the love of all that's fannish, if you put them in a single fic on AO3, separate them out by fandom. (I realize that doesn't apply YET, since you've written these all for one fandom, but a lot of people have enormous all-in-one-fic collections of commentfic on AO3 with dozens of different fandoms, and they always get bumped to the top of the listings every time they add a new ficlet, so you see them a million times just because one out of 100 fics in the whole thing is a drabble in your particular fandom. Possibly I have issues about this. XD)

I think the usual thing is that, if it's long enough to stand on its own as a story, people do that, and if it's not, they get posted as chapters of a longer "fic" (actually a commentfic/drabble collection) on AO3. I've never actually done the latter, though probably someday I should, since I tend to leave a trail of multifannish commentfic spread across LJ, DW, and now Tumblr.

ETA: I forgot to say - yay for writing commentfic for the first time! :) I find it fun; it's a lot lower-pressure than writing a whole fic.

I pretty much have always treated them as I would a standalone fic.

Yay for commentfic!
Also, I have the same problem with reading stuff where the writer is mushing all kinds of fandoms together into chapters of one document. Separate the fandoms please!

Yes, this. I like when ultra short fic is collected because otherweise they can swamp the works listing but not across fandoms. I put my own drawbles which are quick doodles responding to comment prompts or such up as chaptered works, but seperate ones for each fandom, and then I put these in a series. Well, I do combine all xover prompt doodles, because for pretty much all of these the point is the humor of the unexpected combinations, and if I put them in their fandom specific ones I'd need them in two or more, and that doesn't work either. But generally one work per fandom.

I think it partly depends on whether you write them as standalones or excerpts of something longer, and on what your own attitude is toward shorter work (i.e. do you consider a drabble a "whole fic?") I post them individually to AO3, sometimes with a bit of expansion or cleanup, unless I've written them deliberately as chapters in a longer work. Because, well, unless I've written them deliberately as chapters in a longer work, they're complete in themselves, regardless of how short they are.

I'd personally go with posting them as a grouped collection by fandom (which really works with this because there's that common kissing theme), or posting them individually because if people don't want to read shorter stuff they can filter out by wordcount. I like it when authors post themed shorter stories as a chaptered work because then it's easier for me to download and read offline, but that's just a personal preference.

I do think a post with links to all your stories there in this DW might be nice - isn't it DW content week(s)? They fit in with that theme too.

loved it

I don't tumblr, but I do post on ao3. It's definitely long enough to be its own fic. If you do 3-sentence fics or something, some people do a collection, some do them as a series, or some just do each as its own fic regardless of length (I do the last, but not everyone likes that)

Yeah, I just can't decide what to do, so I haven't done anything but this fic. I think since I have two Steve/Bucky and two Steve/Sam now, I might post them by pairing, the two of them together. I'll see.
