It is sooooo fucking hot and dry here, all month. This is the second year in a row we haven't had Juneuary--normally Seattle doesn't get summer till after Independence Day. Most of us don't have air conditioning here, and my house just doesn't cool down. I can't sleep. (Thanks, climate change.)

I try not to look at my AO3 dashboard very much, because it's just too fucking depressing to be confronted with that all the time. But when I was posting the last of the kissfics I noticed that in my list of fandoms at the top, which I don't think I've looked at in forever, Marvel Cinematic Universe and Captain America have overtaken Buffy and X-Files as my most-fanworked fandoms. I guess nothing makes a more emphatic statement about how much Captain America has taken over my life than that. (Thanks, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, for eating my brain and ruining my life.)

And I mean, I was never as prolific in other fandoms as many people I knew were (and most of my older vids aren't posted on AO3), but for me, that was a large output of fanworks, especially because I'd given up on my real life writing at some point before I found fandom (thanks, relationship with emotion-sucking partner). And then after sis_r died, even fan writing dried up for me, so outside of Yuletide, I didn't post anything fic-wise until an MCU Avengers little thing with Loki and Pepper hanging out together keeping vigil. I was never into the huge fandoms of the past fifteen years that most people I knew were. With the MCU/Avengers vids, that pushes the Marvel Cinematic Universe up ahead of Captain America, but I always feel like I should tag fic with MCU. Anyway, I still have story ideas, so I guess that number will keep climbing. More than 200,000 words so far, which kind of boggles my mind, considering how long it was in between the Loki & Pepper thing and the Pacific Rim stories, which is when I really got jump-started back into fanfic. (Thanks, Steve and Bucky and Sam and Natasha and Peggy and everyone else, for all those words.)

If only more than, like, ten people were actually interested in the writing. It's hard, sometimes, to feel motivated to keep putting them down. Easier to just leave them in my head.

Heat sucks so much. We are forecast a heatwave from tomorrow with temperatures rising to over 36° with high humidity, lasting into next week. I already dread it before it started. I live directly under the roof so on sunny days my place is always hotter than outside and I have windows only to one side, so no chance of cross-ventilation unless I leave my front door open. And of course no A/C because it usually is a temperate oceanic climate here with mild summers.

dude, the dark circles/bags under my eyes are not to be believed! I really hate this weather - long term PNW residents are totally not prepared for it, and of course our houses are not either! here's hoping it breaks soon, because everyone will be an irritable zombie soon if it doesn't

it's great you got words back!

Wow, do I hear you so much on the writing. Also the heat, though I live in Florida, so that's par for the course and at least I have A/C (and got it fixed in time for the really bad heat).

Yeah, usually it's like ten fucking degrees cooler and we have what, 2-3 more inches of rain at least? WHAT IS THIS, IF I WANTED TO LIVE IN A DESERT I WOULD HAVE STAYED IN NM. T is also really fucking big into climate change and so he cheerily comes out with all kinds of horrible statistics about how much worse it's going to get "but fortunately, at least for us, that'll probably be after our lifetime." I wish we could afford even window A/C, altho that probably wouldn't help much, but at least it'd be bearable.

I guess nothing makes a more emphatic statement about how much Captain America has taken over my life than that. (Thanks, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, for eating my brain and ruining my life.)

OH DUDE
I AM SO THERE WITH YOU

Never was in a megafandom before, wasn't even all that into slash, and even when I was really into Buffy I think I did....maybe four fics total, ever, one medium-sized one about Gunn, a couple of femslash shorts and a Faith-centric rewrite of S7 for Nano that fortunately got wiped in a computer crash. I was even less 'fannish' about other fandoms, I read and loved X-files fic but that was it.

But now, suddenly it's just like OOOH, I LOVE THESE MOVIES, I LOVE THESE BOYS, I LOVE NATASHA, I LOVE ALL THE ASSASSINS WITH PTSD IN THIS BAR, WHEEE SURE I'LL WRITE SOME KISSFIC FILLS, HOW ABOUT A 4K STORY ABOUT WHICH SHAMPOOS THEY USE? MULTIPLE PLAYLISTS! SUDDENLY ALL MY ICON SLOTS ARE FULL! //facedesk

(And then I get Jossed for Clintasha AND SteveNat in the same fucken movie and God knows what'll happen with CW, FML.)

(Thanks, Steve and Bucky and Sam and Natasha and Peggy and everyone else, for all those words.)

Aww.

I always fear sounding gushy and OTT but I do love your writing, and it really makes my day to see a new fic from you pop up. <3 (And the non-MCU stuff you do too, like the Kings vid, is also gorgeous.)

Yeah, at least I expect the heat and humidity being in Philly.

{{{hugs}}}

I hope motivation keeps finding its way through the malaise (both yours and other people's for kudos/comments)
