God I hate Chicago
Jul. 26th, 2016 12:44 pmI fucking knew it. I just knew this would happen--I made plans to stay in Chicago for a week after Vividcon to see Sebastian Stan at Wizard World, something I’ve never done before (I’m not usually an actor-con type person), but I figured I was in the city anyway and he’ll never come out here to the Northwest. Guess who just cancelled?
And now I’m stuck there with a nonrefundable plane ticket and the costs of all these goddamn hotels, and there’s literally no one I give a shit about seeing there other than meeting up with my friends who were also going to see Sebastian. They didn’t even say whether the refund means the entire cost of admission, or if I’ll have to buy an actual pass for the fucking con, a con I really have no interest in attending. I have always hated Chicago--every time I go there something shitty happens, last year was the only year I’ve gone where it was actually a relatively pleasant trip and no disasters. I should have known.
I am so bummed. I didn’t really care about the autographs, but I was looking forward to actually seeing his pretty face in person and he's always such an entertaining panelist.

Worst case scenario, you could cancel those hotels, get some cheaper ones in the suburbs and use public transit or rent a car, and bum around the area for a bit. Chicago does have some activities to offer.

Date: 2016-07-26 09:11 pm (UTC)The thing is, I have get togethers lined up with some Chicago peeps, but…I'm back out at the fucking airport in a crummy hotel like the VVC hotel, and there's literally nothing to do there. I'd have to cab to transportation to go into the city. And I'll be there for the entire fucking week after VVC, so by then I'll have seen everything that I didn't already see last year when killabeez and I were there. Chicago in August is a version of hell for me. I have to figure out if my friend is coming, then if she isn't, weigh the cost of the ticket change, which last time I did was not insignificant.
The universe does not want me to have nice things. It never does.

Date: 2016-07-29 12:23 am (UTC)On the other hand, Chicago in August sounds vile, and my tiny memory of it is that it truly is, from train layovers there when I was a child. I'm sure it's lovely and interesting and has many things going for it, but I'm a wimp about the weather.
On the other other hand, kitty! Who will be so happy you're home.

Date: 2016-07-28 09:38 pm (UTC)It's just that…most of what I wanted to see in Chicago I saw, and it seems to hate me, so I just hate it right back. And it's unbearably hot in summer, which, as a person raised in a climate much like yours, I don't do well in. So many other places I would have loved to spend all this money at!
