Wow. I just got a note from LJ that someone gave me two months of paid membership. I am so touched, whoever you are -- and wish you'd tell me, so I could thank you profusely and embarassingly and build little tiny shrines on which to sacrifice fruits and vegetables in your honor. It's funny, I've seen people doing that before and just never figured I'd be so fortunate (if for no other reason than most of my friends are as poor as I am!). Whoever you are, I adore you. Muchas smooches!

Now, tell me, paid people, what do I get to do with it? Aside from more iconage, is there anything else? (I've never been a multiple times a day poster, but hey, now I suppose I ought to just post ten stupid things a day to get the maximum benefit!) Cool and annoying tricks I can play?

And if my kind gifter is a Spuffy fan, maybe I'll have something for you soon as tribute -- for some reason I was seized by the need to write a post-Chosen fic tonight. I still can't read the damn things for the trauma and the sadness, but here I am writing one. I have no idea where it's going and how long it'll be, but it seems to be flowing pretty well. I don't even know where it came from, which is weird. (And no, it won't affect the WIP, I promise.)

The idea of a post-Chosen fic from you is like having Christmas come early! I can't wait.

I have a paid LJ account (for now, anyway), and the only benefits that come to mind are the ability to use custom mood icons, polls, and I think you can tweak the design more vs. an unpaid account. I'm sure there's more, I'm just terribly lax in figuring out how all this stuff actually works.

but then we knew that.

You can now search for fellow fans by interest and geography (I found out that the main LJ users in my little town of Los Gatos were all sucidially depressed teens. or maybe they are just normal teens and I've forgotten what is was like).

You can now do "friends friends" - a handy tool if you want to see what your friends are reading. or maybe troll for people who put spoiler warnings in their LJ entries. :-)

There are a few more.

You can also have up to 10 different user pics, use a custom mood theme, and so much more (http://www.livejournal.com/paidaccounts/). [livejournal.com profile] mpoetess made a wonderful all-Spike mood theme that I use and love. You can get it here (http://www.hawksong.com/users/mpoetess/icons/moods/spike/index.html).

And a post-Chosen fic from you -- yes!!

My favorite thing so far about the paid account besides the 10 icons is the custom mood set, which is relatively easy to figure out. (the mood set was time consuming to make, but not complicated...and if you use a set that's already made, it would be completely painless). You can also do custom designs for your LJ, but I don't really know what I'm doing there so I haven't tried it yet.

You can also use the new LJ style "Component," which is very pretty, very easy to customize, and really cool. I switched to it yesterday.

And, yeah, the 'faster servers,' the searching of interest, generating polls... But the biggest benefit is the extra icons :-)

I love this mood icon set -- and would love to use it but I have a bad feeling I'm going to be unable to follow the instructions because I'm so stupid -- like, when she says server, I'm honstly not sure what that means. Like, if I have enough space for it on my MB that the ISP gives me? And I was worried that since I'm on a Mac, the zipped thing might be an issue -- sometimes I can unstuff Zip files, other times I've had trouble with windows-based programs. I'll give it a try, but it's hard for me to exaggerate how stupid I am with this kidn of thing. ;-)

Ooooo, that is pretty -- how do you find it? I looked in the Modify Journal section and in Edit Style, but I couldn't find anything else than what I already had. I know partly this is my own stupidity. I can at least manage the icons. Sometimes I scare myself, how moronic I am.

Yup, you can upload the pics to the area that your ISP set up for you. If you have problems setting it up, or unzipping the files, just drop me an email at tiashome @ livejournal.com and ::whispers:: I'll send you the easy instructions for sharing the ones I have hosted on my server ::whispers:

Go here (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/). Choose S2 as your style system, then Component as your layout. Then you can choose a theme (which sets your colors--mine is Sugar and Spice, but then I played with it a little), and then edit your customizations, which brings up a bunch of sets of things you can mess with, including adding links to your sidebar. It's really easy, actually, and I had a lot of fun with it.

Oh, thank you! See, I really am the dumbest doof around... but if I can't figure it out tomorrow, I might... uh... find out about that offer I heard somewhere... at some time, but i don't know who from.

Thank you! I would never have figured that out. I'm too lame to be let loose with stuff like this. I'll have to figure out that other stuff tomorrow -- like, I don't like the blue scheme that much, but it's one of the few with darker text on white background, and my journal's so text heavy I feel I need that. The the colors you chose are lovely.I don't know exactly how to choose colors so I have to look into that tomorrow, where I have some actual speed on the machine. And how to do those cute little comment button names people come up with! Whee.

When you go to the Customize section again, there's a button at the bottom to edit your customize options. Click that, and you'll get a set of tabbed stuff to go through--Layout, Colors, Presentation, Text, and Links. Tab through all of them and play with how you want to change things--and it's easy to change back to the default as well.

Yeah, I like the colors, but I don't think the options they have make text the easiest to read. I tweaked with mine a little bit to make the text color stand out more.

Have fun!
