The lovely LJ fairy hit me again with more paid time -- whoever you are, thank you, thank you. You are most kind and wonderful.

And [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh fixed me up the lovely Stitch icon. I finally saw the movie after wanting to for some time, and it's instantly become a favorite. I think it's my favorite Disney movie of all time, maybe even my favorite animated movie -- it just hit a chord in me, something about it resonated with me more than anything I've seen in years. Between Lilo and Stitch, and Lost in Translation, my top ten list won't have quite as many revolving titles anymore -- those are staying in it for always.

And I'm on pins and needles for the Angel premier tonight, but I saw the teaser during Gilmore Girls, and Angel's hair! It's disturbing! It makes him look like some goombah on the Sopranos! I love the hair that sticks up. Love, love, love it. Acceptance is a hard thing, you know?

And last but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to [livejournal.com profile] diva_stardust! I hope it's filled with lots of good things.

I had no idea you hadn't seen Lilo and Stitch until just recently. It's magnificent. "Pudge controls the weather."

And I've seen Lost in Translation three times, now - went opening night and went back almost right away.

I have a feeling I'm going to go to Lost in Translation again this weekend, when I should be going to Underworld or something else. ;-)

I kept missing L&S in the theatre, and when my neighbor gave me that deadly Netflix subscription, it was the first thing I rented. I watched it FOUR times in the time I had it. I just... gah. I bawled like a baby when Stitch said "this is my family... It's little and broken, but is okay." And it was so funny in other places -- I'm adding the "my friends need to be punished" quote at some point here to my journal. The watercolor backgrounds, the fantastic voice talent... what a perfect movie.

"Mr. Bubbles? Aliens are attacking my house... Oh good! My dog found the chainsaw!"

You know the guy who wrote it and directed it is also the voice of Stitch?

I loved "Wow. San Fransisco."

No, I didn't know he was the same guy! What a talent. I just died when I realized that was Ving Rhames -- I mean, Ving playing Mr. Bubbles. To die for.

I think it's a toss up for favorite moment for me -- Stitch going into the forest and crying "I'm lost", hoping to be found, or Lilo squirting him with the water bottle, and him throwing it away. It's a totally fast, tossed off little gag, but for some reason, I just adore it. And San Francisco!!

The icon is adorable. My kids have been pestering me to get them the movie but have yet to get around to it.

I have no idea what they are doing to DB's hair but I've seen pics from the second episode and it looks like it's back up where it belongs. Maybe Spike gave him grooming tips?

Lost in Translation just opened in the states a few weeks ago. It's written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Francis's daughter, who also made The Virgin Suicides), and stars Bill Murray as this famous Hollywood actor who goes to Japan to film a whiskey commercial. He's at this kind of crossroads in his life, and feels displaced both within his own life and in the physical sense of being in Japan. He meets up with a young woman who's similarly disaffected in her new marriage, and they become friendly while staying in the hotel, kindred spirits who cling to each other.

I don't even have the words for how much I loved it. It's subtle and slow-moving and has long stretches of total silence; it's gorgeously filmed, and Bill Murray is sublime. I never thought I would say that -- I was not a fan of his in younger days -- but he is exquisite here, his comic timing is impeccable, but so is his dramatic talent. It's often hysterically funny, and quietly poignant. If I gave grades, I'd give it an A+, if I gave stars, I'd give it five stars, if I gave points on a 1-10 scale, I'd give it a ten.

Many many thanks for the info, I'll definitely keep on eye on it for when it comes out here. I always liked BMurray, and the Virgin Suicides is a complex, fascinating film.
