Productivity enhancement
Jun. 22nd, 2003 12:16 pmI feel weirdly productive this weekend, even though I haven't done anything in the garden, which is generally how I judge my productivity. The weird thing is that I wasted a lot of time, too, and still managed to get a lot done. Wasted hours yesterday going downtown after writing circle (where we, oddly, never wrote, but yakked about writing for an hour and a half) so I could find a summer jacket that was nicer than my denim jacket, and of course it was the Nordstrom half-yearly sale I'd stumbled into, so I had to try on clothes.
I finished the Spike vid to Sheryl Crow's I Shall Believe (what I think is probably the ultimate song for Spike and his relationship with Buffy by the end of season 7). It's my first real computer vid -- my previous attempt was for a recut vid, rather than creating something original. I'm completely convinced it's a hack piece of work, because the learning process is not going well for me; I seem to be learning very slowly and there are some things I can't do with iMovie that I had in my head and would like to have done for this vid, but I'm starting to get a little better. I just don't know if the learning of computer vidding will translate to a decent story. Anyone have tons of free space to host a vid? Shyeah, right, you say. I wish I could put it somewhere just so my friends could give me feedback (the idea of being able to change bad clip choices is still a new concept to me), but I guess that'll have to wait till I'm better off financially.
And then I also managed to finish the Spike and Buffy pre-Anne, post-Becoming story for the most part. I have a largish section of dialog to write where I was getting bogged down and couldn't quite jump the hurdle, so bypassed it in order to get the rest written, but overall it's finished and I'm really happy I was finally able to write it. It had been hanging around in my mind for a long time; last weekend I was driving around and had an epiphany about how to end it, which had tripped me up before. And the rest of the story may possibly suck, but damn, the ending rocks! I'm at least happy with that, but the rest of it needs serious work as it's in pretty crappy shape right now.
And I even got in a watching of Big Eden and Happy Texas, both of which put me in the proper frame of mind for writing. Now I'm going to dump this vid down to digital tape and then to Viv's for Sean Bean ogling. And maybe some plant staking beforehand. If I don't do something for my pretty flowers, I will be consumed by guilt.
