LFN update
Sep. 4th, 2004 01:39 pmThe group of fans who have spearheaded the campaigns to get La Femme Nikita on DVD (and to keep the show the first time it was cancelled), First Team, have said that Warner Home Video are working on the legal issue that made them withdraw the season 2 DVDs a week before they were due to hit shelves. They said that since it's in the hands of the legal dept., there is no set deadline for resolution and no clear plan of attack for resolution, either. But they insist they are working on it and do want to release the discs (considering the investment they made, I would hope so). However...
They've stated with a reasonable degree of certainty that it will not be until 2005. I'd heard rumors of Jan. 20, 2005 as a target date, but those were only rumors, and it sounds like they have no idea whether that could be met or not anyway. But they also insisted that if sales go well (considering how many thousands were purchased already, I hope that someone is keeping tabs on this at WHV) they would also like to release S3 in 2005 as well. But don't hold your breath -- I cannot imagine them doing a second set before the very end of the year at the earliest, most likely just before Christmas. Putting the release of S2 initially more than a year after S1 was a terrible marketing challenge, and now that they've been pushed back to 2005, that means more than a year and a half between season releases. It's hard to sustain interest in something lke that, and with all the bootleg copies floating around out there from the folks who bought them initially when they weren't supposed to, I don't know if interest in S2 can be sustained. All we can do is buy and hope -- if enough people do buy S2, then maybe we might see S3 (which has two of my favorite eps, and some really cool character development with Mikey and Nikita) at all. Cross your fingers.
