Aug. 3rd, 2004 11:30 amIn honor of the Keen Eddie DVDs coming out next month (September 7), I'd love to do a new vid with all that shiny footage. But I have four different songs I can't decide between, and with so many vids on my plate, I don't want to devote too much time to doing all of these. Each has pros and cons. No mp3s to direct you to, but some of these will be familiar to anyone who hasn't lived in caves for the past few years.

I Know. I think I've heard this song, but yeah, I'm not that fond of female vocalists. I think I've only done two vids that use female vocals, three if you count the "You want danger..?" intro to Sex on Wheels. I hadn't thought about whether or not it was because it was a male-centered vid, though. Hmmm. Food for thought. My first reaction seems incredibly misogynistic, but I don't mean it that way--male voices are more interesting and dynamic to me. If there's one word to describe Eddie, it's dynamic.
My Mistake.
I haven't heard this. (begins search)Ooh! Love the rockabilly bass line, but it's could easily become what you did before. And, now, because I contain multitudes and in spite of my braying about male vocal dynamism above, damn! Chrissy Hind. Yeah! Ultimate rocker, IMO. I do NOT loathe the Pretenders. :)

Date: 2004-08-03 12:36 pm (UTC)But many people loathe Pretenders.
::Gasp::
But, but how? How do you loathe the Pretenders? I mean - CHRISSIE!!! And then sometimes they are back on the chain gang and then you can go "Hoh, hah!" as you sing along and then sometimes she tells you that she is gonna use her arms and her legs and her imagination and really - that is a damed good song and and and ...
People don't like the Pretenders? Are these people that listen to Celine a lot? Michael Bolton fans? CHRISSIE!!

Date: 2004-08-03 12:53 pm (UTC)What she said! Chrissie's been a legend longer than most fans have been alive!
But then, I didn't realize the Red Hot Chili Peppers were universally loathed, either.
:boggles at own cluelessness:

Date: 2004-08-03 02:03 pm (UTC)Now I want to band a group of people together and go out and witness the wonder of The Pretenders and what having a strong female vocalist singing songs that I *got* - what that meant to me as a child. I mean - if it wasn't for the Pretenders, I'd probably have really warped values. I'd probably like Evanescence.

Date: 2004-08-03 02:04 pm (UTC)I probably have about a 60-40 ratio of women to men in my music collection, largely because I love folk singer songwrites which has a high proportion of women. Not sure why. Or maybe it's all balanced out by the alternative metal thrash guys and it's really 50-50. I've never counted!

I think it comes from being raised in classic rock hell.

Date: 2004-08-03 03:28 pm (UTC)I do like the Pretenders, though. It's a fun song. Interesting rhythms. You could do cool things with it.

Date: 2004-08-03 03:52 pm (UTC)Aural reeducation camp will consist of a daily dose of Chrissie Hynde's Christmas song, followed by liberal doses of the White Album, chased down by playing Sneaker Pimps before you go to bed.

Date: 2004-08-03 03:53 pm (UTC)It does have interesting rhythms, and that's a lot of what I like about it -- the show has such odd cutting and massive weirdness leavened with charm and gentleness that I think it would be a great fit.

Date: 2004-08-03 04:08 pm (UTC)Yeah, apparently so. I never knew until a vidder I know got some really nasty comments about her choice of song.
But Flea is so cute??
Yes, not to mention a talented musician and actor. I ask you, how can you *not* love guys who've gone onstage in nothing but strategically worn socks? *g*
