Speaking of vidses...
Aug. 4th, 2004 08:33 amSo far, it looks like the Pretenders' "Don't Get Me Wrong" wins by a mile in the next Keen Eddie vid sweepstakes (sorry, Jo). Not that I won't do the others eventually, but at least this helps me since I could not make up my mind at all.
But in the meantime, my summer fling with cars and hot boys continues, and I have a new vid for the Fast and the Furious up at my site. It's QuickTime, 20.3MB, to "Stripped" by Depeche Mode. Thanks again so much to
mlyn for the song. The site is password protected, so if you don't already have it, I'll send it to you tonight after you send me a request. Not that I actually think anyone's interested in this besides three people I know.
I have never ever made a vid this quickly; I think all totalled, it was less than ten days, maybe even just a week that I actually spent time on it. I'd forgot how much I like doing movie vids, since I haven't done one since the Soldier vid way back when. The fact that there's so much less capturing you have to do (even in a two-hour movie, you really only get about maybe 40 min of clips max, which you then will distill even further to your 3 or 4 minute vid), and that you're either concentrating the storyline of the movie or retextualizing it completely, is kind of fun and very different than working with series television.
But I'm obsessed with these boys for right now I suppose because of the summer heat, and rather into this fandom, which always means vids. The vid hasn't been betaed, but I was really happy with it, so I slapped it up anyway. I kind of wanted to focus less on the racing and crime/cop story, to keep it on the relationship between Brian and Dom and that core part of the movie story that attracts me so much: two people who want something they can't have, and how much they need from each other. For some reason that really resonates with me and even though the song verses have some truly 'tarded lyrics, the chorus parts nail the relationship.
And not that in a million years anyone would rec it, but if you do, please link to the main entry page so people can see the password request link.

Date: 2004-08-04 09:33 am (UTC)Yes! Exactly. When I was making the Gladiator vid, it seemed easy in comparison to working with several seasons of source. And yet, the challenge was to find something new to say with that small amount of source.
As for the vid: yay! I'll dl your vid when I get home tonight. :D

Hm. Might be able to download it and watch it here at work later today, since I should have some alone time. Can you e-mail me the password?
I had one

Date: 2004-08-04 08:42 pm (UTC)I LOVE what you did with "you're breathing in fumes, I taste when we kiss." Best use of movie footage ever. Same goes with the eye-flick and smile between Dom and Brian at the BBQ. And the timing of the crash with the music. There are probably hundreds of things I adore about this vid, in the way I haven't adored a vid in a long time. You may not think it's Oscar-winning work, but I'll take it into bed with me. ;)

Date: 2004-08-05 07:59 am (UTC)P.S. Do you know any more B/D slash. I think I went through the little there is (khaleesian, roxy...). If you have some more recs, I'd be so grateful.

Date: 2004-08-05 08:57 am (UTC)Khaleesian sent me some links that I haven't checked out yet since I've been in the throes of vid farr. It sounds like most of the fic is being posted on lists rather than on web sites. I can send you the links she sent me if you want. And I'm so effing picky that I just won't read anything unless I have a sense that it will be worth it, so I'm not always a good judge. I guess this is why I always end up writing my own, because I so rarely find what I want to read. Thank god for Khaleesian or I might have already run away from the fandom.

Date: 2004-08-05 09:03 am (UTC)BTW, if you want a DVD-R of the vid, I can send you one. It'll have tons of other vids, of course, but that and the Keen Eddie vid are on it, and I always make my vids with the large screen in mind. I hate the way online does that annoying keyframe blip and the smallness of such lovely visuals, so my favorite way to see them is on TV. I'd be happy to send you something as a thank you for all your lovely fic.
