New York in June
Jun. 12th, 2006 10:59 amI keep thinking New York in June is some kind of lyric from something... I'm just on crack, though, right?
Anyway. I have to go to NY for this gruesome work "retreat" on the 22-24. I'm coming in in the late afternoon/evening to JFK and I have to go to this wretched party with snobby, asshat writers and editors, at the public library because it's our big 10th anniversary shindig. I'm hoping to make an appearance and then ditch as fast as I freaking can. On Friday I'm stuck in a meeting all day, and then there's a ghastly dinner planned that I also would love an excuse to ditch early. I've heard about how heinous our most asshatted contributors and staff people are to others and to me there's nothing worse than spending time with east coast prep school snobs who name-drop and treat waitstaff like shit.
So, any NYers think they might have some time to spend at night? On Friday my dear friend from DC may be coming up to join me for the evening, but he is entirely fannish and mixes well with others. I am afraid my plans are very shaky at the moment, really, and it's next to impossible to know what I can plan because I've never been to one of these before, but I'm staying at the Warwick on like 54th or 56th or something, and so I'll be close to a lot of things, I hear. If anyone's interested in meeting up, I can try to figure out what I can/can't do and maybe we can connect and make what we could laughingly call a plan as I learn more.

I like a Gershwin tune,
how about you?
Its from the Mickey and Judy movie "Babes on Broadway." And for once my default icon is almost fandom appropriate:-)

Date: 2006-06-13 04:28 pm (UTC)I was pretty shaken by this--I don't really know why I didn't just go, but something told me not to--& when I got to work, I was trying to tell my boss about it, only I couldn't remember the word broadside. I kept making a sideways T with my hands & saying, "Hit like that!" every time I've told this (not that interesting) story, until finally when someone said broadside, I *wrote it down.* The word had somehow escaped from my brain, & I had to recapture it! And this is not the only instance of "how did I forget *that*??" I've experienced.
