Man, I thought life was already depressing enough

I have one word to say about Southland this week:

Why? Why did they kill off Nate? I don't understand, I just don't understand. You could have killed off Sammy or Sal or Dewey and no one would care. But you kill off a nice, cool, hip, sexy guy who's good at what he does and has some value in the world you created, unlike Sammy and Sal, who are detestable. I am really pissed off at you, show. I don't even understand why they were there -- there's no indication of why they were in that situation anyway, since they'd arrested Spider earlier. I don't mind going for the big drama. I understand killing off a character. But why did you have to pick my guy? Why did you have to pick one of the characters who doesn't make people want to put their hands around their necks and squeeze till their eyes pop out?

And I think of poor Kevin Alejandro, who finally had a great role worthy of him, and who just loved being in that show so damn much, he was such a big promoter of it. Now he's going to be stuck doing every crappy show on TV in one-off roles again. Way to stick it to your actors, show.

I don't even know if Lydia and the John and Ben show can keep me going after this. To have to watch Sammy after Nate... no thanks.

As I understand it, Keven Alejandro wanted to be written off the show so that he could focus on True Blood.

I would care if they killed off Sal or Sammy. (But you knew that already.) I'm really curious now where they are going to take Sammy.

You will hear my whoops of joy if Tammy dies.

I thought of you when I saw the episode! But of course Alejandro is on True Blood these days, unlike the other actors on the show who are only on Southland.

Well, except he's a tertiary character at best, and will never have the kind of focus he had on Southland. I don't know why they couldn't just write it so he could come back from time to time.

Well, they could have written around him being able to come back in some way. And TB is never going to give him the focus Southland does.

Drive by comment - I believe they weren't able to reconcile his Southland commitment with his True Blood commitment, so SL let him go to do that. WOE.

I don't know Southland at all, but I do know True Blood, and I think they're going to expand his role on that show. I don't like TB much anymore, but I did like the Jesus character (he's a brujo on that show and the boyfriend of Lafayette, another favorite) and maybe you can get your KA fix there? I dunno.

I'm sorry! I thought of you. Of all the gang detectives, he's my favorite.

If it makes you feel any better, he signed on for True Blood when it looked like Southland was getting cancelled before TNT picked it up. And then Southland wasn't cancelled and so he tried to do both, but the scheduling just wasn't working out.

Yes, I know he's on TB. But he's never going to be more than a tertiary character in that story, no matter how much I like Lafayette and who he's involved with.

No, it doesn't make me feel better. He's never going to be a major character on TB, not the way he was in Southland. I wish they would have written around him being able to come back from time to time, the way Russell does. I would have much preferred Sammy got killed and Nate maybe going away or doing something else in his grief.
