And now the winter pics.

Our room at the Westin Bayshore hotel in Vancouver overlooked their convention center area. I loved how the snow had melted just a little into this ruched-fabric-like scene on the glass roof below us.

This is [livejournal.com profile] mlyn. Isn't she just infuriatingly photogenic and cute? I hate her. I believe people should only get to be one or the other -- either goodlooking and not photogenic, or ugly and photogenic. It's unfair when they're both. We were just stepping out to go on our shopping extravaganza.

There was this weird "exhibit" in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery -- this yellow van cut in half, and the front is this big green ... blob. And then this little half of another vehicle. Very odd.

This scene is probably familiar to many people who have watched series filmed in Vancouver. It's the little underground area at the Art Gallery, on whose steps many many many a series has been filmed. I just love the half light as we were getting toward dusk, even though this isn't a good picture.

I really wish I had a tripod -- I would have loved to get a prettier picture of the lights on the skytrain up to Grouse Mountain. We were on our way back to the hotel and the sky was so clear and cold -- the fountain where I took this picture had three solid inches of frozen water in it.

And now for our own snow here at home from this past week. My sister's garage with a nice blanket of snow, which she would have hated because she loathed being cold.

A pic from farther up the backyard. It makes my weedy, scraggly garden actually look pretty!

It's hard to see without enlarging this, but I was trying to catch the wind swirling the snow around -- the first day there was a really bitter, heavy wind, and it would blow these gusts around off people's roofs and trees. Really interesting visually but hard for an amateur to catch on film.

This is looking toward the water, to the west of my house -- the sun sets over Puget Sound and I often get to see the most spectacular sunsets if I walk up a couple blocks.

I don't know why but this is my fave pic of the snow days. I love the litle tiny caps of snow on the lights. They're so cute!

I also like this one from my back parking area. The sun was setting and lighting everything beautifully.

The front of my house gets light bounced off the neighbor's windows, so those little pink light squares on the bottom right of the house are from the sunset. I just love the way snow makes everything look clean, even my moldy old house.

Very nice. I especially like the first one. And the green blob. :)

Wow! That all looks so familiar! And, of course, we're in for more tonight!

And yay! Now maybe I'll actually recognize [livejournal.com profile] mlyn if I run into her at Curves! (As it is, she looks vaguely familiar, so I'm fairly sure we've bumped into each other before.)

I hate you too, darling. :D

Your house is so cute! I have always thought so.

I was there around 4:30-5 tonight, and wondering if someone was going to walk up to me while I was sweating and panting. XD I think we should meet elsewhere first...

Ah, what I wouldn't give for some nice snow right now. We've had 3 days of ice and sleet. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] mlyn is cuter than a bug's ear and quite photogenic.

Also, I like your new blue garage against the white snow.

a question

Gwyn,

Do you remember someone named Brian Metz?

We're waiting for the snow here in PDX. But your house is adorable. And your backyard garden doesn look pretty frosted with snow. Could never tell it was scraggly.

Wow, the first one is so cool! I thought it was fabric at first. I love the one from your back parking area, with the sunset. Really pretty.

The green blob totally freaks me out! I have no idea what it's meant to say. Also, the little half back end of the other car, with a wheel where it shouldn't be, mystifies me. Disturbing Canadian artists.

You gotta love LiveJournal when it helps you identify people who go to the same gym as you.

Did you get more white stuff this morning? It's lovely here, though I'm sure commuters are pissed off at it.

I think I'm ready to move on from cute to something better. It'll never be a great house, but I want it a little less cute at some point. Or just not with algae growing on it.

I will always take snow over ice and sleet. The bad part is that we always get ice first, and then snow over that. I think the stuff that melted recently probably refroze, and though I haven't listened to the news today, there are probably hell patches all over town. When you don't have to go anywhere, though, it's nice!

Snow on a bad garden is like nail polish on toes -- it hides a multitude of sins and makes something pretty out of something not so pretty.

I know, isn't that half melted snow cool? I couldn't stop looking at it, but it was so effing cold I couldn't really stand on the faux balcony to keep taking pics. BTW, they made a really bad Peppermint Patty at the bar that night, I gotta say. First the iced tea and now this. Hmpf.

Umm...Brian Metz; alexfandra mentioned your name and I didn't think the odds were that good that there could be two women in Seattle with that particular name. So...are you?

Pretty pics! It would be nice if we were having pretty instead of just brrr cold (for here).

Hey, sorry if I missed a mention (I am perpetually LJ-behind) but you and Jo are coming to Escapade, yes?

I'm going, but I don't think Jo is -- unless Kat can't make it, then she might try to go to do the vid show. Which I have absolutely no idea about, so there's still a possibility that she may have to come down. (She's saving up all her vacation and money for Japan in April.)

Mmmm, Jack. Hey, someone should do a Jack panel this year. I love that he's the king of ambiguity -- sexual, moral, you name it. Yum.
