From maechi, apparently Sci-Fi Channel has picked up Charlie Jade.

I just. I don't. WHAT.

They rejected it before, at least once, possibly multiple times. Enough time has passed that there's really not a second series in the picture at all, largely because the showrunners couldn't get funding, and Sci-Fi's support would have helped obtain that. But noooooo. It was too complicated. Too smart. Not appropriate for their Mansquito loving audience.

Why now? I feel like I should be excited, because maybe there will be more fans for me to play with, but... I don't know that their audience is going to embrace it, since they seem to be doing this as an afterthought. And it will be butchered -- of the language, of the violence, and the stories cut down to fit more advertising in, making them even less comprehensible than they are now. By toning down the sexuality, they'll remove a lot of what makes 01 Boxer interesting in his freaky way.

I really don't know what to think.

Well, I'm glad it's going to get a wider airing. I I wouldn't be surprised that it's now in part due to the soon to be ending run of BSG.

My first highly uncharitable thought was that they must've gotten it for really cheap, especially now that there's no question of them funding any more eps. Assclowns.

Yes, it'll be nice to have it aired to a wider audience, but... but... I'm cringing at the thought of how much character stuff will be cut, especially with 01. Bleh.

And I'm not even watching BSG anymore, but if I were, the announcement that they're holding the second half of the last season hostage until the '08/'09 season would've made me want to scream. Geez, let's milk the cash cow for all it's worth.

I've heard of Charlie Jade but didn't really know what it was about. It looks really interesting.

I don't know why SciFi turned it down originally, but I'm not that surprised that they'll be showing a quality series. They've almost always been pretty good about the quality of the TV series they show. It's their movies that suck from Hell and are some of the lowest quality I've seen anywhere. Mansquito indeed.

I'm with sdwolfpup pretty much. I'm too stunned, but basically against. They will butcher it beyond recognition, and leave it so incomprehensible that people will be scratching their heads and wondering why we liked the show at all, I fear. Oy.
