How can you meditate with evil in your midst?

On Dog Whisperer tonight, they featured a story on a woman who rescued an abused dog even though she was in a really bad shape herself. Cesar recognizes that the dog's aggression is totally related to her pain from a debilitating injury and her emotional stress, so he has her undergo acupuncture and takes her to a meditation instructor.

When they walk in the door, there's... Jeff Kober. And it says "Jeff Kober Meditation Instructor" on the show ID. I totally freaked out -- I mean, the guy who specializes in playing sick psychos and evil supernatural characters on dozens and dozens of shows is a... guy who teaches meditation? And he's wearing glasses and looking all friendly. But of course, WE KNOW what he's really like. He's most famous among my fannish pack from his appearances on Buffy the Vampire Slayers and Mag 7, but he's also been in Burn Notice and SPN and you name it, he's been in it, usually playing a Very Bad Man. And still well known from his role on China Beach.

His bio doesn't mention anything about it. But I mean, I cannot imagine meditating with him sitting there. I'd be expecting him to start intoning in his evil way about how someone tastes like strawberries.

LOL! See, I'd be fine with it, because he played Daedalus in Kindred: The Embraced, a a nasty-looking Nosferatu with a sensitive soul. So naturally, I assume Daedalus meditated often. In between killings at the behest of his prince, of course. *g*

Okaaaay...the really psycho thing for me is, while I've seen him in a lot of things, I never really knew his name. Cause looking at that bio, I, er, know him. And most of him family. I went to school (and hung out) with his nephew. Weird. I would have never connected the two. He is very different in person.

Aw, I think that's cool. That he's got a whole second (third?) career, takes it seriously, doesn't blow his own horn about it and just goes about his business.

Of course, I also remember him as Dodger from China Beach, who was more of a well-rounded character than his guest spots. So, like, I've seem him smile in a non-menacing way before. (God that show was almost 20 years ago.)

I saw in his bio that he was from Billings. He had his little specs on and kept smiling every time he was on camera, so I assume he's different enough for Cesar to trust bringing people to him. And yet...

Yeah, I think that's where I probably first saw him. He was... well, maybe not a nice character, but a damaged yet decent one, I guess, so we can assume he can play other types than psycho vampires and murdering thieves. Or, we hope!

I bet too that him being on Dog Whisperer may just net him more clients -- they'd be like, hey! It's That Guy! And he does meditation!

I think this may just net him more clients -- DW is a popular show, for sure, and people will probably recognize him somewhat, and now have a name to connect with him.
