Good Place and Adjustment Bureau

OMG The Good Place tonight! Mindy!!!! Mindy was back!!! I love Mindy so much--last season minim calibre and I were talking about how utterly amazing that actress was, how much we loved that character, and I had hoped, but really didn't expect, that she would show up this year. And we got her in episode three!! Her timing is astounding, she is a seriously gifted actor and the character just kills me. How much she wants some cocaine. Dressing in her afterlife medium place outfit of the '80s power suit. Her love of gardening and masturbation.

And that it came with the revelation that Chidi and Eleanor really are in love…seriously, this is like the best fanfic. I wasn't going to ask for Good Place fic for Yuletide, but I think I might have to ask for Mindy fic. With a bonus of Chidi and Eleanor falling in love. I was really kind of panicking in this episode, because I thought, how are they burning through all these stories, how on earth can they sustain this show? This is like having fanfic filmed, I swear to god. This is exactly what fic has to do all the time to sustain a show that devolves into shitty writing--but it's being given to us, like a gift, with the actors and the sets and the cinematography and everything.

And OMG the names of all the shops--Sushi and the Banshees! This show. I spent so much time proselytizing last year, but only a few people went ahead and watched back then, and I'm loving seeing people discover it now because it's so good. SO GOOD.

In other news, I nominated a movie this year for Yuletide that I think is going to be an empty choice. But back when I got home from the hospital, it was nominations time, and I was telling killabeez and minim calibre about how much I've always dreamed of having a The Adjustment Bureau fic where Sam Wilson finds out that he was Harry Mitchell, one of the quasi-angel-like beings in the movie (both roles played by Anthony Mackie). I'd been thinking about that desire a lot in the hospital for some reason, I'd written a post about it on Tumblr years ago, but neither min nor killa were familiar with the movie and min suggested that this is a perfect time to begin a campaign to get more people familiar with the movie, so that someday maybe someone will write that fic where Sam realizes he used to be one of the Adjustment team's caseworkers. They suggested that if I can drum up interest, it could happen.

Min actually bought the dvd, and we watched it the other night and she gave me the regular non-hd dvd which I'm planning to rip--I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I could put it up for download here if anyone wanted to see it. Anthony Mackie is adorable as Harry, and I think the movie satisfies both slashers with Mackie and Matt Damon's characters, and het or gen fans, with the romance between Damon and Emily Blunt's characters that's at the heart of the movie. It also has great performances from John Slattery and Terence Stamp, and I don't know why, but I just love it and I want more people to love it too.

I looked for fic on AO3 but wow, there's almost nothing--out of 15 stories, there are only about seven or eight that aren't either AUs of a different fandom or crossovers without the movie's characters I wanted. Only a couple feature Mackie's character, and only one is more than a few hundred words. I thought it would be great for me since it's a crossover with Political Animals, but it was really, really terribly written, so I don't even have fic to pimp someone with. I'll have to see about maybe vidding it, but that might not be for a while.

I don't have much luck trying to lure people into shows or movies. Once in a while I succeed, but not often, so I don't know that there'll be anyone else but me doing anything with the movie this year. But I'll keep trying, I guess. (Of course, I never thought to look on ff.net, but since I've never gone there to read anything, I'm kind of in the mode of why start now…)

Sushi and the Banshees! The Bad Place where everything was on a stick! Hot dog on a stick on a stick! The fountain of chowder omg. That was such a great compilation of awesome. Oh, wow, Jason's terrible, terrible story.

I watched The Adjustment Bureau and Inception pretty much back to back, and my mind was a minor tangle of "what is reality?" after that.

But no fanfic inspirations, alas.

I remember watching The Adjustment Bureau when it came out, and quite enjoying it, and I'm all over Anthony Mackie, and also it would be fun crossing it over with PA. I will be seriously considering putting it on my Yuletide list.

You had me at quasi-angel. I'm not participating in Yuletide (I might be lifetime-banned at this point? Or possibly I could participate again if I wrote an NYR, I don't know, but I'm not in a place I could do that if I wanted), but I would still be interested, and I will never say never about fic emerging, especially for such a teeny fandom, which is apparently a Thing of mine.

TGP is so good I can't believe it's actually on tv. You're right, it's presenting the ideal fanfic version of itself, and I want it to keep playing out those variations forever. <3

The fountain of chowder made me howl--it reminded me of Trevor's "the dining car serves only room temperature Manhattan clam chowder." Because it's the worst.

I wasn't planning to ask for Good Place fic, because I'm actually really wanting some of my more obscure fandoms, but I think I may have to just for Mindy.

Is a chaos spiral an actual thing? I'm not very up on things like that, but it does sound like something legit and that Michael would be in one--I just love that there are punitive, asshole bosses in the underworld. Of course it would be exactly like modern Western life. Of course.

::rubs hands together in glee:: Yeees, eeexcellent. I figure if I can possibly convince even a couple people, I might stand a chance. He is so sweet and cuddly, and I love him so much. Harry just seems like he could be Sam so, so easily to me.

They are so wonderful. I kept pausing and pausing. I could see all of them, the type was too small in some cases, but I almost expired over Knish from a Rose.

My birthday's coming up at end of November! :-D :-D

I will try to get a copy of the movie made and linked this week if I can, so you can see it. I figure if I can even lure just a couple people, I'll be ahead of the game. Mackie is just so soft and cuddly and sweet in this, there's this mournful quality to him too that reminded me of Sam--like, he's fine with his life, and what he does, but there's also something in him that believes in a better world. He could so, so easily become Sam if he were made human.

I know, right? I convinced my friend Keith to let me show him the first three eps, and I know he was dubious, but he left here hooked. He kept saying Tahani was insufferable and I said, "She is! But you will fall madly in love with her in a few more eps." He doesn't believe me, but he will, oh, he will.

I think the actual term on the show is 'chaos sequence', oops. And yeah, the representations of hell thus far have been banal in such a spot on way. I love the demon who just wants to bite something.
