I can haz bathtub!
Jan. 25th, 2010 04:14 pmWell, soon I can haz one. The Miracle Method guy came today to reglaze the reglazed tub. Many years ago, I did a remodel of the bathroom, and it included painting the baby-puke gold bathtub white to match the new white fixtures and tile tub surround. I hated that tub and would never sit down in it for many reasons, one of which was that over the 50+ years, it had obviously been used to bathe large clawed animals and was scratched and gouged all to hell, and second because my sewer system had backed up into it for the first however many years I lived here, and no matter how much I scrubbed it, I could not shake the fear of raw sewage germs. I didn't even like standing in it to shower, much less sit in it.
I got about... oh, maybe six months of bathtub sitting before it started chipping and then peeling slowly away. I am clumsy to an almost absurd level, and of course the first few weeks, I dropped just about anything I could drop on it. A guy at the place where I worked then was also having his bathroom redone, and he told me that not only had the Miracle Method people done a spectacular job at erasing the scratches in their tub, nothing chipped when they dropped anything. I ground my teeth in jealousy because clearly, I had not called the right guys. MM uses a bonding agent so that if it does chip when I drop something, it won't start to peel as my tub has done for... I dunno, maybe 10 or 12 years? And they will come fix the chipped area.
In all that time I haven't been able to take a bath except at hotels. When we stayed at the posh hotel in Vancouver a couple months ago and I found our room didn't have the tub, and I'd brought all the Lush bath goodies, I kind of lost my rag and decided that it was time to pull some money and get the tub reglazed right this time.
Tomorrow very early (gah) he comes to finish it off, but it looks spectacular right now. There are stills scratches in evidence, because there's no way they can get that out of a porcelain tub completely, but it definitely looks better than the first job. He tried to convince me to put a no-slip texture on the bottom ("I'll give it to you for free!" he said, because he was worried that the tub, being what it is, is sloped so much I would slip), but I said, I have been waiting to take baths again for years and years, and I want it as smooth as it can be. Men definitely don't seem to understand these needs!
I am so excited about using the bath bombs I bought. If you're trying to get hold of me and can't, people, I'll be in the tub!
