Oh man, I completely missed this when it came out -- curse you, fannish diaspora! -- and then heard about it via a friend who saw it at Get Together, and, just, wow. I knew from the amazed tweets I saw about it that it would be good, but even coming in with high expectations, I was just totally blown away.

I loved the parallels between Steve and Bucky and how detailed you made them. I loved that you made the serum the orange crush. And most of all, that bit with Steve in the super soldier maker thingy (I forget what that's called) and Bucky in the chair, and then both of them staring at their modified, changed bodies -- wow. Actual chills, totally stunning, ALL THE FEELINGS. I'm going to be watching this one again and again.

It might have something to do with the fact that I released it a few days before VVC, too. ;-) Not my best timing. I'm so glad you liked it -- it means a lot to me, coming from you, truly.

And I have to ask, because so far searches have failed to show me anything in this regard and I am so invisible these days that I get depressed (this is the first vid I've ever had more than a couple comments for) -- what is Get Together, and is there a twitter thread I could find these things on? I'd love to see what people are saying! It makes me happy that someone else out there noticed it!

A friend just showed me this vid this weekend and I think it is definitely one of the best Captain America vids around. The editing is flawless, and it's a perfect song to talk about the ways in which both Bucky and Steve are weapons that were created by other people.

That was wonderful! I like how you paced the length of the clips to the song- picking up speed when the song did and slowing down when the song did. And just how You intercut Bucky&Steve and Winter Soldier& Steve was great.

Thank you! I got really lucky, too, in that I'd finished a draft and the dvd rip had just dropped, so I was able to replace clips with something better. A lot of pain and work, but it was worth it!

Yes!!! Yes! I'm so glad someone else is thinking of that -- I wondered if anyone would make those connections. I thought that Winter Soldier, with its '70s political thriller bent, had a lot of Vietnam allegory about it, for as much as it addresses issues today. And then you throw in the mad scientists of the first movie and and…it's very delicious.

Not a song you hear a lot (or ever, really) used for vids, but it makes me nostalgic, so you put me in a good mood as soon as I heard it start up.

I'd never really listened to the lyrics closely, but this is such a good song to use for these two with it being about going to war. I loved you using the scene of them all getting arrested with the helicopter noise in the background. And ugh, the parallels between Bucky and Steve with their transformations, and Steve not having much luck with gangways, first having to confront Red Skull and then Bucky after Red Skull's goons had turned him into their weapon.

I liked at 3:27 with Hydra surrounding Steve in the camp back in the war, and the poor bastard is still surrounded by them 70 years later in the lift when they come to take him down. Someone get rid of them already for him, lol.

I can't tell you how happy your comment made me -- I got it when I was at Vividcon and reading it made me feel so good and ready to take on the world, even though I was running on fumes by then!

But my favorite thing is Steve not having much luck with gangways, because that IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE TOLD OTHER PEOPLE! Even the same words. We are separated at birth.

So, as you know (I think?) I have been playing vid catch-up since falling down the rabbit hole, and once I spewed out my vid drafts, I went back and started watching all the things by people I know. I started with this one, because I heard it discussed so much at VVC. In glowing terms, that is, in case there was any doubt.

I think whenever you feel like you don't know why you make fanworks, you should basically picture me sitting in my living room, making the kind of incoherent squeaking sounds that only dolphins can hear and respond to. Because that's what happened to me while watching this vid. *g* I love, love, LOVE parallelism and symbolism, and this vid is full of the glorious use of both, and it strikes me in the place in my brain where this fandom made such an impression on me. Honestly, it's brilliant; the comparisons you make and the parallels you draw blew me away. It has gorgeous motion, too, but you know. Technical things and me, we don't get along so well. Mostly I respond on an emotional level to things, and I don't, and this vid makes me very happy because it's smart as hell. And brings the feels. Many feels.

So, you know. That's why you make fanworks. SO I CAN SQUEAK OVER THEM. :D
