Yes, well said, and also--a lot of that "mainstream acceptance" they feel they're getting is simply a craven way of getting money. I know this well, having worked at a national magazine that a lot of people thought embraced fannish products, but were snickering at them behind the scenes. They had no idea or concern over the intended audience, they figured that if it was public it was theirs to do with as they would. And of course, these things are public, but that still doesn't mean you're the audience they were intended for. This concept has been really blurred and I am sad that it's what we're left with.
