Date: 2017-01-09 12:52 am (UTC)So we drove an hour to the theater where it was playing and got out of the car and looked at the line and blinked quite a bit, then made our way to the end. When the 7pm show started, we figured we'd moved close enough that we could probably get in for the 9:30, so we stayed put, with my older brother trotting off to a doughnut shop nearby for hot drinks because nighttime was colder than expected.
Little bro and I were the youngest people in the theater, which was a first-ever experience for me. And then it started up, and blew. my. MIND. My god, that crawl! And then the rebel ship coming right over our heads, so big and so much noise, and then HOLY SHIT THE BATTLE CRUISER and I was just gone, man. The whole audience was utterly rapt. Everyone cheered like crazy when the Death Star blew up, and yes to all the cheering at the end during the credits!
I was over the moon, so so in love. We drove back home again, getting there after midnight, and my 12-y-o self felt very grown up indeed.
My grown-up college-age brother felt a little less so, as it turned out he hadn't bothered to find a payphone when he went to get us cocoa, and my parents weren't really expecting him to bring home their two pre-teens well after midnight...
I've never loved any of the movies the way I love Star Wars. It was magic.
(My little bro and I spent the summer gravely saying "May the Force be with you" as we batted badminton birdies around...)
