In case those of you on my flist don't know, tonight is the first of the series of episodes that focus on the stroke and subsequent passing of Capt. Phil Harris. Entertainment Weekly had a small piece last week that talked about it, and how Phil wanted them to keep going to tell the rest of his story. The producers said they knew it might be hard for a lot of people, and that it wasn't like any story they ever expected to have on the show -- it sounds like they're planning to handle it with care. The episode for this week is just finishing recording and I'm going to watch it now, fully expecting to bawl like a baby.

I had the chance to meet him, very briefly, when he was at the store near my house when he launched his coffee company. He was a hoot and a half, and it feels so sad to see it happening in front of us on TV. Augh. Anyways, just a warning that tonight isn't the only episode that deals with this.

It is very sad when you don't know somebody--just knowing the area makes the impact so much greater. And knowing the person-- well, I'm already going through the tissues bad enough with this stupid headcold!!

I was totally unfamiliar with the show, but on the Alaska cruise I recently returned from, Capt. Keith Colburn did a couple of cooking classes -- which drew crowds larger than the space allotted for them.
