As I kind of expected, the Spike and Buffy piece wins by a mile, and so shall I write it. Or try, at least, I'm more than a little daunted by the task I've set for myself, as this is the least fleshed-out in terms of actual story that I've done in a long time. And the naughty people who voted for "I hate your fandoms" didn't tell me which fandom to write in (though I'm pretty damn sure I know what [livejournal.com profile] alvafan wants!).

I secretly hoped that the Miami Vice story would come from behind to win. Because, truth to tell, that seems easier. I got very adept (or at least, I think I did, I could be wrong) at writing the strong silent type in X-Files, with Walter "why use one word when no words will do" Skinner; so Martin Castillo seems like a pretty easy skate from there, since he's down to half-words.

I know some people would say, write both, but I have a terrible time compartmentalizing; I can't seem to separate my ideas well and the focus of one story bleeds into another. And others would say, write a flashfic or whatever they're called, but there's the really big rub -- I cannot write short. It's really embarassing. I just drone on and on, and I have no idea how not to do that. I fear that the fewer the words, the less worth the "story" has. The idea of two people doing nothing but talking makes me feel like a failure. The shortest piece I've written in years, fiction-wise, was for a benefit zine, a 2,000 word piece in Mag 7 that caused me fits of agony because I couldn't see how anything less than 5,000 would be worth anyone's time.

I have such admiration for people who can do short. But this weekend looks abysmal and rainy and dreary, so I'll see if I can't somehow find a way to do both. I'm not sure I have the skill set to do such radically different writing at the same time, along with my writing group writing, but I'll see if those... well, I don't have plot bunnies, I have plot Tasmanian devils ... work on me at all.

The results:

An experimental, possibly longish Spike and Buffy piece that takes place after The Gift
16 (45.7%)

A vignette with Spike and Wes in AtS this season, boring talking heads
3 (8.6%)

A Magnificent 7 slash comedy, featuring C/V, and some Ezra for good measure
4 (11.4%)

A Miami Vice slash story, set in the ep Shadow in the Dark
5 (14.3%)

Finish the fricking WIP, already
3 (8.6%)

Write in my fandom! I hate yours!
4 (11.4%)

Ummm...yeah...well...what was your first guess..?! (Oh, by the way, I don't actually "hate" your other fandoms, I just don't play in them currently.) =P
