Jun. 22nd, 2005 03:12 pmDoes anyone know where
malisita went? I swear, I hardly ever look at my info page, but when I did recently I noticed her LJ was crossed out. Bummer.
After three months of waiting, I finally got my cool new Euro-style washer dryer combo unit. I bought it with my tax return, shortly after my sister died, more to just do something than anything else. And the first time they called me and told me it would be over a month before it arrived (they'd said a week), I asked, "Did the ship got stuck in the horse latitudes, and they're just waiting for a wind to carry them around the Cape?" The guy didn't get it, needless to say. Then the second time they called and said it would be another month (end of May), I asked if they really were taking the cape route instead of going through the Panama Canal. Still didn't get it. I made a joke about those three masted sailing ships being hard to plan for, and he finally laughed. So then June starts ticking by, and finally I get a call saying it will be here the next day. They installed it yesterday and took my old unit away, and I was thrilled because it's not stacking! There is space all around me! I did a load and everything seemed fine till it hit the high speed spin cycle.
Really, it sounded not unlike a Mercury 7 capsule taking off on its Saturn booster rocket. I thought something would explode. I thought surely this could not be right. So today I did another load, heavier, to see if that had any effect. OMG, it was worse. And then it went right into its drying cycle (that's the cool thing about these, you can just leave your stuff in there and it dries!) but partway through it shut down and started blinking its red start light hostilely at me and it smelled like burning rubber. Salesperson of course won't call me back and his voice mail is full. I am so pissed. Why can't I ever just buy anything? Why does buying anything always end with something that doesn't work or needs fixing or I have to call five people to get it right? I just don't understand this jinx. First the car, now this, in the span of two weeks. Usually I stagger my large purchases because I know that disaster always awaits me no matter what I buy. But this... at least before, while I waited three months for some retired old Swedish engineer to build it in his garage, I had a washer and dryer that worked; now I will have to take my laundry outside if this unit is defective... just too angry for words. And disappointed.
I'm just so... tired. Everything makes me tired right now and I don't have the coping skills to deal. Rats, car-buying disasters, washing machines that sound like they will explode. I officially hit the ground, screaming "incoming" as I go.
