OMG! I wrote!
Dec. 9th, 2006 06:11 pmToday, the installers from the Closet Factory came to install my new office system. I've been working at home for nearly two years now, cramped into this ridiculous setup with my work laptop and my Mac and vidding setup vying for the teensy amount of space I had, making my RSI so bad that at times I actually get tears in my eyes, the pain is so bad. And now I have an office system! With storage and stuff! And huge tracts of filing drawers. Now I can go out and buy organizey stuff -- clear plastic boxes with pullout drawers, and drawer organizers, and all manner of wonderful things. Of course, I got a cold right when this happened, so I'm just bringing the bare minimum stuff back into the space and getting the computers set up, since I'm working this weekend. That's all I have the energy for since I feel feverish and sore.
But an even better thing happened -- there's not a lot to do when they're here, because they have to take up a lot of space to bring things in, drill, cut, etc., so I sat down in the corner with my last chapter of Measure of a Man, which I haven't touched in months upon months, and I wrote. A whole thousand or so words. Now I have a whomping 2,000 plus words. This is not normally a big deal -- I can toss out 1,000 words on my lunch break, but because I haven't been able to write for so very long, this felt pretty monumental. And 2,000 words isn't a lot when you consider that all the other chapters clocked in with at least 6-8,000 minimum except one small chapter, but... it's progress. Something I haven't had in a long time for my little work in no progress.
