Hey, thanks everyone, for the birthday wishes and the cute little virtual gifts and cards. I really appreciate it, and it helps me get through the day.

I went up to [livejournal.com profile] alexfandra's house and we watched a couple episodes of It Takes a Thief, which Alex discovered on some new retro channel that I don't get on my cable system. They also were showing my old favorite and probable proto-fandom, Laredo, I guess. It was so great to revisit Alexander Mundy. I hope they show it long enough to reach the episodes where Fred Astaire guests as Al's dad, and my favorite episode, which featured the 5th Dimension. The swingin' clothes and groovy music were far out, baby.

When there was a short break in the weather, we raced down to Alex's favorite birding spot, the Montlake Fill, and saw some birds, plus a nutria swimming in the water and then he obligingly sat up on a log so we could look at him. I saw shovelers, hooded mergansers, widgeons, and a bird I can never remember the name of... I think it was buffle? But I keep wanting to call them baffles. It was brutally cold with the wind just whipping into us, but we persevered. Then we went off to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] mockerbee and her spousal unit, and afterwards Alex and I popped by [livejournal.com profile] gattagrigia's house to pick up cake (I was so stuffed with Chinese food, though, I had to take a swathe of it home). Then I had to go home because Blues had managed to run off again and wouldn't come in before I left, and it made me too nervous to stay up there and hang around with the little monster on the loose. Fortunately he was here in the yard when I came home and very very hungry. Little dork.

My dad gave me a 1 terrabyte hard drive for my birthday. Unfortunately, it won't allow me to reformat it from FAT32, and now it's not even recognizing the drive at all. I'm not sure what's happened, if it's just a bad drive or what. I will try Fantom's customer support but I'm always skeptical of hard drive makers. I'm really sad that it's not working! Wah!

Thanksgiving night I stayed up way too late DLing Christmas music from iTunes. There's so much cool new stuff every year, and this is what i think music sites like iTunes have done best -- encourage new music from people who wouldn't otherwise be noticed. But in doing so, I realized that somehow, some way, my copy of Relient k's Christmas album from last year has completely disappeared. And I wonder if anyone out there has a copy of Boxing Day they might share? If I don't get the whole album back it won't kill me (though I do love their version of Silver Bells), but I'm really bummed about losing Boxing Day.

And one thing really plagued me. I've Googled and searched iTunes and all manner of music sites, and I can't seem to find a trace of a version of Merry Christmas from the Family that was done by a female singer a few years ago. I keep thinking it was Jill Sobule, but I could be wrong about that, but I swear I am not crazy. I *know* I've heard this version, but I can't find any trace of it. Does anyone remember this, besides me? Confirmed! I'm not nuts! Now I know how I can locate this.

I'll put up a few of my new faves and a couple older faves to share in a later post. Right now, I am amused by the idea that I am a tranquil person.
