Not so bad Friday
Jan. 9th, 2009 11:36 pmand Thursday! Not the best days ever, but some good things in between the bouts of migraine and other hormonal misery. And cat fighting.
Tomorrow I have the new writing group I've joined. It's SF-fantasy centric, and while I've really been out of that genre for a long time, it will be nice to at least be able to use my editing skills to help some writers who are really working hard on their fiction, and to get out of the house and be around people. I got into it through my old friend, who's getting stuff published all over the darn place. I can't say some of the stuff I've read the past couple days is on par with him, but... some of it's a struggle to read, others are a bit more interesting.
- Opened email Thur morning and found a request from a publisher to have me proof the next in the book series that I worked on last October. It's not much, but every little bit helps as I try to pull in more work as a freelancer, which sometimes feels very difficult.
- Then got a phone call later in the day from the recruiter at this creative staffing agency I signed on with Tuesday, for a potential occasional proofing job at a small nonprofit. It's waaaay below my rate, but if it's steady, short work, part-time, it would be okay, and if it's not far from me, even better.
- Got some great news about a friend that made me grin all afternoon.
- New 30 Rock! Which was hysterical. The idea that they could turn Jack finding a lump on his testicle into something that funny is really astonishing to me. I don't get why no one I know thinks this show is funny. I die. And I was so hoping Liz would finally not screw up a great relationship, and I adore Peter Dinklage, so I was truly hoping she would be able to keep him as a boyfriend. He would have been so great for her! He spoke Star Wars, man!
- Got a bottle of BPAL in the mail of a scent I'd fallen in love with, but when I bought a bottle previously, it was nothing like the decant I'd had. It was awful, in fact. So I opened this one instantly, and it was the scent I had fallen in love with. So now I'm torn about getting some more before it goes off sale next week, because I don't know if it'll be the good or the bad, but at least I have one bottle of the good.
- Went to drinkies and quesadillas with friends at El Chupacabra. Yes, it's actually called that. It's a fun, if terribly crowded and parking challenged bar in my old nabe. Tonight there was a guy who came in with the best jacket ever: a motorcycle jacket with a back that said on top: Mosquito Fleet and below: Moped Army, with a skull and crossbones in the middle. ::dies::
- Got another bottle of BPAL today that I had totally forgotten I'd ordered! It's one of the retail-only scents that a lovely person from Georgia picked up for some us when she was in the Whole Foods that sells them recently.
- New Flashpoint tonight!! My new stupid fandom is back, baby! While I have not developed, like so many of my friends, Hugh Flu for Hugh Dillon, I do apparently have a variant strain called Ed Lane Fever B, which originates in Toronto. (I think they will identify Patient Zero at some point asbrynnmck) It is my gear-porn happy place, and the fact that it's on before Numb3rs makes me very cheerful.
