Did Buffy somehow learn how to smile dialog? Some kind of new lip-reading thing?
I know this is only peripheral to your subject. But it's in the ball park. And I know I have sneaked in another little rant about my current pet peeve which is abuse of dialog attributions.
I only see this kind of error in dialog within quotes. It reveals a very deep misunderstanding of how dialog punctuation works.
