It seems like lately life conspires to make my weekends more about real life and less and less about fannishness. Once I got into media fandom, back in the 12th century, it seemed as if all my weekends were fannishly spent for the majority of hours. Now it's a rare occasion. Friday night [livejournal.com profile] feochadn and [livejournal.com profile] movies_michelle came over for our semi regular Friday night TV watching, and brought good Indian food and Deadwood, which I am now officially addicted to. Being as it was a tandoori oven in my house with our freakish 95 degree weather (mid westerners and east coasters and southerners laugh, but seriously, up here, it's unbearable, especially as most of us don't have A/C).

Then yesterday I went out with seemingly everyone in Seattle to a theatre for guaranteed air conditioning as the thermometer topped 95 again, to see King Arthur before he vanishes from the multiplexes. Thank god, though, that apparently everyone else was seeing Bourne and Spiderman. I actually enjoyed it much more the second time around -- I knew when the really great shots of Clive and Ioan were coming, and I knew where all the great Gawain/Tristan/Gallahad stuff was, and when the camera would lovingly focus on Clive's incredible eyes... and all the historical crap had already been found out, so I could just kick back and enjoy the view even more.

Then [livejournal.com profile] mlyn came over to watch bonus features on The Fast and The Furious and see the sequel, 2 Fast, 2 Furious, which was awful but in a fun kind of way and didn't have half the style or unironic substance of the first one. But there were some nice shots I can steal for a vid and use in a constructed reality. We laughed muchly, and mlyn also kindly fixed my vid song problem by playing me her Depeche Mode albums (my DP education is strangely hole-filled in certain places, and so one perfect song I had never heard before, and turns out to work quite nicely). You will be happy to know, mlyn, that I am actualy already editing the music and have plunked the song file in iMovie, and may try to capture some clips from 2F2F as well. As I descend into summer madness with this silly but monumentally hot fandom, it's nice to have someone on the ride down to hell with me. (*And* who can give great story feedback!)

Then today some of us locals had a brunch get together for [livejournal.com profile] katallison who is in town for a few days. Despite annoyingly awful service and a staff who were weirdly freaked out by a large group of well behaved women, I think a lot of fun was had, though [livejournal.com profile] sherrold and her camera scare all the photo-phobic folks in the group. ;-) Here's hoping Kat can join us out in the pacific NW soon, and grow Japanese maples and rosemary bushes! Later, [livejournal.com profile] trollchild is joining me for Sunday Nikita ep night, and now we can watch season 2 on my illegally obtained unreleased dvds! Yay! It's fun to have suddenly, after years of ineffectually trying to pimp people into my fandoms, people joining me in my strange obsessional interests. Makes this whole experience so much better, and makes for a real honest to god fannish weekend the likes of which I haven't had for a long time.

Only, now I have to return to staining the deck. I suppose a few dark spots must still occur somewhere.

Another Deadwood convert. Yay! I think the show is amazing and I pimp it relentlessly, both on and off lj. Besides the husband, though, I don't believe I've ever convinced anyone to watch it. ;)

I just wish I had taped the episodes when they were airing, instead of relying on On Demand for repeat viewings. It's the one show, post-AtS, that I think about fannishly. It's one of those shows that gets more interesting on second (or third) viewing, because you get a chance to catch all the nuances that zipped by the first time.

I was pretty on the fence about Deadwood for the first four or so eps -- as someone who writes in a western setting and spends a lot of time researching things, I felt they went way overboard on the swearing and the lifestyles. It was an ugly town, absolutely, but I felt like they were just over the top about everything, and it's a weird world when Brad Dourif is the *only* sympathetic character on the show. But it's grown on me now, and we're up to ep 10, but missed 8, so some stuff is a little confusing for me. I'm hoping we can correct that this week. ;-)

I liked Wild Bill a lot at first, but Jane irritated me, until the girl came along, and then everything seemed to change. And at first, the relationship with Sol and Seth was mildly amusing but uninteresting to me, but about the time Bill was killed, then suddenly the story shifted and that partnership of the hardware guys really blossomed. I'm liking it all a lot now, and I just feel so sorry for almost everyone -- between Al and whatshisname, the character Gregory Peck... I mean, Powers Booth plays, everyone in that town is going to have something horrible happen to them... Al is one seriously evil dude.

AWESOME.

Khali says she'll get me some raw material for my Photoshopping habit. What I really need is the movie(s) in a format where I can put it on my computer and rip screencaps. Can you help me out with that in any way?

I don't need a DVD; I don't have a drive to play it, and no vid card into which I could plug my DVD player. But I do have software and have ripped screencaps off an AVI file.

As I descend into summer madness with this silly but monumentally hot fandom, it's nice to have someone on the ride down to hell with me. (*And* who can give great story feedback!)

Aw, thanks! I'm glad it helped. I feel a bit embarrassed, though, that I didn't catch any of your so-called diction problems that you mentioned in your other post. Actually, that reminds me that I haven't gotten nitpicky like that on your manuscript as I said I would. I'll get to it, although I doubt you'll need me now. *G*

I'm in the process of rebuilding my page with that crap banner I told you about, so I may not get the new story/site up till Thursday or so, espcially since I'm trying to also DL some new software OS updates, which is a challenge when you're on a dialup that quits all the time. If that gives you any idea of my timeline...

You know, I'm largely clueless about the whole avi thing, but I know that I can make jpgs from stills in the vid -- I can select a frame and make a jpg from it. I don't really know how to do much beyond dump in my clips from the dvd player source, and then work with them in iMovie. I'm a luddite. But we can figure something out, if you don't get them elsewhere.

The icon is one I made, which is why it's crappy. I can only find three pics of the two of them together, and one cast picture where Vin is facing a different direction than Paul, so it's annoying... BUT a very talented photoshop person could take Vin out, and cut out everyone else, and then put Vin next to Paul facing towards him... not that I know any photoshop people... right? ;-) I could direct you to a photo if you know of anyone who knows p-shop...

And if you want the icon, feel free to take, I know it's crap so you won't offend me if you don't.

Oh yeah. I tried downloading a 16 mb file just now. The rate was somewhere around POINT SEVEN kb/sec when I gave up.

The school has cut down the dorms' broadband allotment to 1/16th of what it usually is. I'm SO happy.

You know, I'm largely clueless about the whole avi thing

I guess I was thinking that you copy the movie onto a computer and save it as a file, then cut from there. It sounds like you don't do that (and why would you? *headdesk*) so there's no point in begging. *G*

If the campus internet improves come fall quarter, I'll try and download the movie from someone (which seems to be a big pasttime here). Either that or I'll beg my dad to help me upgrade my computer to the kickass state I want it to be in.

I could direct you to a photo if you know of anyone who knows p-shop...

Send the photos my way, baby.

Here's a link for the gay porn tableau shot in the Google images section; it also has the pic I used in the icon
http://images.google.com/images?q=%22the+fast+and+the+furious%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=20&sa=N

This one has Dom with his arms up, and a shot of him breaking up the fight with Vince
http://images.google.com/images?q=%22the+fast+and+the+furious%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=80&sa=N

and this one has the posed cast picture that a person who knows what they're doing could manipulate
http://www.latinoreview.com/moviereviews/2000/archive/latin/fast.html

The first couple links are to the google image pages -- if they don't come up right, just search on "the fast and the furious" in Google images and you can find them on like the second and third pages.

oh! oh! I finally found a site that has a couple other shots!
http://www.beepworld.de/members42/consuela/tftf.htm
seems to have some other shots with the two of them... most of the quality isn't good, but if you can grab something good, send it my way when you're done!

These are a bit more promising. Will do!

Did you see the backstage shot at RaceWars, of Vin with a model? *Stifles laughter*

Yay for Google. I keep forgetting that they have decent image searching capabilities.

Yeah, but damn, it's low-res and small. *Pout* I'll see what I can do for the sake of an LJ icon, but I'm not going to be expecting much.

I emailed you the beta'd fic and my links for F&F. Let me know what you think of my feedback.
