Just click your heels together...
Aug. 27th, 2004 02:24 pmHow did I not know that Close My Eyes was available in region 1 DVD??? How has this escaped my notice? Full-frontal (young) Clive Owen! (While he's definitely creamy dreamy, I admit I like his new cragginess these days.) Incest! And tormented Alan Rickman (young!)!! The weirdest denouement in history! Did I mention nekkid Clive? And god only knows how long it's been available and no one told me! I had the power to get this, all this time, just like Dorothy did to get home, but I never knew!
Whew, I'm tired from all the exclamation points. But there I was, poking around looking at used prices on Second Sight, which is now out in R1 for both series one and two and I figured I should buy it while I still had a contract, and there was Close My Eyes on disc. I had to pony up a $250 deposit to rent it at Scarecrow, Seattle's cool specialty video store, because apparently none of us knew it was out in R1. Dammit, so much wasted time. I mean, I loooove this movie. It's totally weird and people act so bizarrely, but it's so cool. Brother-sister incest! And tortured Alan Rickman!
I seem to have a weird fondness for brother-sister incest stories. I do not know what this means. Maybe that I never had a brother, let alone a hot brother. One thing about being adopted is that you always wonder, if you're macking with someone, could I be macking with my long-lost brother? It's always a question. One of my favorite strange French movies (I realize that is a redundancy) is called Invitation au Voyage (I really should rent it again, dammit), and it's about a set of fraternal twins who have an incestuous relationship, and she dies, and they were going on a trip, and so he packs her body in a cello case or something like that, and takes her on the road trip. No, really, it's kind of cool!
And also, I saw Hellboy last night, and what a charming, fun movie. Much better than any of the action pics I saw this summer, and didn't fall into the every-15-minutes action/slow/action/slow crap that's driving me nuts. And I had no idea Guillermo del Toro was such a fan-shaped fan boy -- he looks like the Simpsons' comic book guy. Really, really liked it, and what the hell is wrong with stupid asshats MGM that they can't release Magnificent 7 on DVD when Ron Perlman is riding high on Hellboy and Eric Close is hot on Without a Trace and Michael Biehn has a new (admittedly crappy sounding) show starting next week called Hawaii? Fucking fuckballs. Cretins.
But Close My Eyes and Second Sight! Wheee!!
