Just click your heels together...
Aug. 27th, 2004 02:24 pmHow did I not know that Close My Eyes was available in region 1 DVD??? How has this escaped my notice? Full-frontal (young) Clive Owen! (While he's definitely creamy dreamy, I admit I like his new cragginess these days.) Incest! And tormented Alan Rickman (young!)!! The weirdest denouement in history! Did I mention nekkid Clive? And god only knows how long it's been available and no one told me! I had the power to get this, all this time, just like Dorothy did to get home, but I never knew!
Whew, I'm tired from all the exclamation points. But there I was, poking around looking at used prices on Second Sight, which is now out in R1 for both series one and two and I figured I should buy it while I still had a contract, and there was Close My Eyes on disc. I had to pony up a $250 deposit to rent it at Scarecrow, Seattle's cool specialty video store, because apparently none of us knew it was out in R1. Dammit, so much wasted time. I mean, I loooove this movie. It's totally weird and people act so bizarrely, but it's so cool. Brother-sister incest! And tortured Alan Rickman!
I seem to have a weird fondness for brother-sister incest stories. I do not know what this means. Maybe that I never had a brother, let alone a hot brother. One thing about being adopted is that you always wonder, if you're macking with someone, could I be macking with my long-lost brother? It's always a question. One of my favorite strange French movies (I realize that is a redundancy) is called Invitation au Voyage (I really should rent it again, dammit), and it's about a set of fraternal twins who have an incestuous relationship, and she dies, and they were going on a trip, and so he packs her body in a cello case or something like that, and takes her on the road trip. No, really, it's kind of cool!
And also, I saw Hellboy last night, and what a charming, fun movie. Much better than any of the action pics I saw this summer, and didn't fall into the every-15-minutes action/slow/action/slow crap that's driving me nuts. And I had no idea Guillermo del Toro was such a fan-shaped fan boy -- he looks like the Simpsons' comic book guy. Really, really liked it, and what the hell is wrong with stupid asshats MGM that they can't release Magnificent 7 on DVD when Ron Perlman is riding high on Hellboy and Eric Close is hot on Without a Trace and Michael Biehn has a new (admittedly crappy sounding) show starting next week called Hawaii? Fucking fuckballs. Cretins.
But Close My Eyes and Second Sight! Wheee!!

Date: 2004-08-27 05:42 pm (UTC)I KNEW I recognized people in that commercial.
Have you seen Dark Harbor? Also a really weird movie, also with Alan Rickman, and also with full frontal nudity. It's ALL good. You should get both and have a set.
You know I've been bored when I read
So you'll tap me into more of the fandom, right?

Date: 2004-08-27 05:53 pm (UTC)Oh, glad I'm not the only one.
::has never had a brother either::
::that she knows of::
You've probably mentioned it before, but humour me by telling me again: Did you read The Secret History by Donna Tartt?? Got a truly awesome story to pimp, then...
One of my favorite strange French movies (I realize that is a redundancy)
So. Very. True.

Did you know that a 3-disc 'Hellboy' DVD is coming out in October/November? I am *so* excited!!!
And I agree completely - they should be releasing 'The Magnificent 7' on DVD - it was so wonderful seeing Michael, Eric and Ron! together). Who are those asshats who run the studio?
Don't close my eyes
Date: 2004-08-29 11:09 pm (UTC)I think that Rickman was at his most gorgeous in this move. It's delicious and decadent and absolutely de-lovely.

Date: 2004-09-01 08:23 am (UTC)I got all of the Second Sight DVDs from Netflix. I still have the last one, have had it for a month, but can't bear to watch it because then it will be OVER, and I can't stand it. So it sits there, tying up one of my three DVD slots, because I'm a wimp.
After reading your story last night, I added F&F to my Netflix queue so I can watch it yet again. Yeah, I should just buy a copy.
I'm kind of excited about Hawaii -- I like ALL the guys in it, and I know from Sentinel experience that a crappy show can still spawn much in the way of slash.

Date: 2004-09-01 10:09 am (UTC)I am nervous as hell about Hawaii because the clips I've seen were just awful, but any time MB's running around with guns, I'm happy, and yeah, it looks to be very, very guy-heavy, so there's always potential. I've had my heart so broken lately, though, with potential dramas, even bad ones. My heart still aches for a terrible show called MDs two years ago, because the slash potential was enormous, and of couse it was on A(lready) B(een) C(ancelled). I have to be careful with MB, too, because he might break my slashy heart -- Mag 7 only lasted 23 eps.
