Fic updates
Sep. 12th, 2004 04:49 pmA couple new fics to span the spectrum of my bizarre, motley fannish interests. (Honestly, do other people have such disjointed and unrelated and just plain weird collections of fandoms at their web sites? Sometimes I look at my home page and think I must appear to be someone with MPD.)
First is a new chapter of the work in not very progress at all, The Measure of a Man. Chapter 6, Secrets & Lies, is another of the talky ones, only at least this time it's Spike and Buffy and Dawn rather than everyone else in the universe, if you've been waiting for that. I think that Kalima is right, chapter sixes and chapter fives seem to be hard to write -- I know where the action is going, but you have to get the characters to that point, and so when you're in the middle, it's like you're almost at the top of the mountain, but not quite. The air gets thin and your brain goes numb.
Second is a new The Fast and the Furious vignette called Torque. This is an odd little thing and if you're expecting a porny slash extravaganza, you'll be disappointed. This one is most definitely for my beloved X, whose art has been inspirational in more than a few fandoms, especially this one, and whose friendship has been even more inspirational. (Not that others can't read it!) I've always had a tough time writing those other POV stories about two characters I love, I'm not sure why, but I know X loves that style of story, and I was thinking about what Letty would do if she found out about Dom and Brian (because their undying love is so *clear*, people!). It gave me a good chance to try out that style; I think I did a decent job with the Willow's eye view of Spike and Buffy in A Brief History of Now, but some of my friends told me I cheated by having Last One Standing be in Chris's POV for the Bystander zine that X produced a few years ago. So at least this one definitely fits the bystander POV format, ha ha!
I'm working on a much longer piece for F&F, but that one's going to take a while -- I've already got 1,300 words and I'm not even out of the station house just yet.
