So, this is my first "story" in the Numb3rs fandom. I hesitate to call it a story; it's really more a series of intraepisode interludes from Man Hunt, the ep with Don's old partner Coop. I can't exactly vouch for quality, either, as I've been editing and changing up to and after posting, which always means typos or bad words creep in that I don't notice, etc. I'm just chronically dissatisfied with everything I do, but this especially so.

In the Blood is here and it's a little over 6,000 words, Don and Coop, and if you've never read anything by me before, I eschew the usual trappings like warnings and keywords and disclaimers because they're an idiotic waste of time. The only summaries are on my main page, and the one for this is "Don and Coop's reunion is more than just on the job."

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sherrold for the edits!

I really enjoyed this. I wish I remembered more about Man Hunt, because then I'd probably enjoy it even more, but really it's just so refreshing to see some fic in this fandom that's *not* squicking me, and the fact that it's by you (and therefore fabulously well-written) is a huge bonus.

Coop/Don squee!

Now that that's out of the way, here we go.

I think you got Coop's voice dead-on. Don and Charlie are harder for me to "hear" because dude, Don's a clam I haven't been watching the show, but Charlie's nervous stuttering is a good counter to Don's dialogue.

The gum on the bottle makes me hot.

Um, also, I love how well Coop knows him, knows just what to say to make him feel better, and knows that things can't be exactly as they were before. Their connection is just delicious; you did a great job of forming that and describing it. And their clamness: "This was just something you kept to yourself." Oh, too adorable.

Last thing: the ending really, really feels like On Beds of Sorrow. I like it.

And your icon is Teh Sexxxxx. Rrrrowr.

I was just finishing the Kim episode when you posted this, and had to watch Man Hunt to know Coop. Glad I did, and very glad and thankful that you wrote and shared this. I love how you handled things between the two of them, and the voices were solid. Very nice :)

am almost *never* a reader of fanfic.

but in this case, I'm glad I made an exception! let us know when you write more... (Numb3rs is the first network TV show I've liked in ... well, since ST:DS9, actually.)

thank you!

Awesome!

He'd collected so much other baggage along the way, though, that he was certain it wasn't just the location making it feel weird, couldn't be that. It was how things were with Coop, always: you waited for him to tell you what the game was.

I love, love, love what you did with Coop in this story. You've really filled out his character, and yet, had it ring true with what I saw in the episode.

And Don! How I love what you did with him too. This was well worth waiting for. Thanks!

Oh, my

I just wanted to tell you that I really, really *really* liked In the Blood. And this is from someone who wants to see tons of Don & Charlie's relationship.

That is one helluva story!

(I had sent this to you as an email, but I got a message saying that they had been unable to deliver it after 4 hours, but that they'd keep trying for the next 5 days. Who knows if it'll ever show up.)

That was beautiful! I haven't even seen that episode (and I had to google Coop *g*) but I really really enjoyed it. You captured Don's character and situation so well. I really hope you'll write more in that Fandom!

y'know...this may seem bad timing after I just saw your feedback post :D But I seriously did not watch the episode till last night and was looking forward to reading your fic today...and it was wonderful!!! I loved the way you had them interact, rough and soft at the same time, all manly yet with the emotions right there; I loved the way Coop broke his central rule and I loved that in the blood phrase.

it's a weird fandom for me, b/c i totally see the charlie/don vibes and yet unless they're mostly friendship, the incest squicks me...so i want don to be all happy and satisfied and his chemistry with Coop was great (as were Charlie and the dad's concerns!!!)

Anyway, the story was as good as I hoped and expected!! Thanks for sharing!!!

I was looking at this and wondering, who is this? And then I realized it was you! I've been so stressed and busy I haven't kept up with things at all.

I guess this can be the niche I carve for myself -- it doesn't squick.

I had a bad feeling the ending would be too much like Sorrow in that the lines were similar and the car driving away and all... but I couldn't seem to write anything different, it seemed to want to end that way, so I left it. Sometimes stories will do what they want to do -- I figure you're going to be the only person, anyway, who's read both!

Thank you! They're kind of worth the extra effort, aren't they? I rarely see slash on my own, but this one kind of jumped off the screen, even to me.

Thank you! Glad you gave it a chance... that's a long time in between shows!

I'm glad you liked it... it's weird how something with about 30 minutes of footage has taken hold in my heart, but boy, they really have. I wish Max Martini wasn't going to be on a new show, because now I fear they really never will bring him back (not that I thought there was much chance for it anyway), and I am sad. Don needs him.

It seemed like this took forever to show up, and I guess my ISP is really showing the effects of being bought by someone else. I'm dreading having to move my web site again, but it's starting to look like I might have to... But thank you for the extra effort... it was nice to receive both!

He's worth the extra effort, though, I think! I don't know what it is about him and about him and Don, but... definitely something that made my brain go bing bing bing!

Thank you! Yeah, it's kind of funny how there seems to be a need for the non-squick stuff for slash fans in this fandom... I guess that will be my tag line -- at least it won't squick you. I could see the incest stuff, maybe, if there was a writer capable of carrying it off, but there are few writers good enough to make me believe that these two brothers would do that, first off, and as far as I know, none of them are writing in it... so unless the very best of the best suddenly drop in, I will have a hard time going there.

Besides, I just think Coop and Don are hot together, and I'm happy with that!

LOL. Yeah, it's probably just me. I like it because it reminds me of Sorrow and you have a great style with both. I didn't say that as criticism. :)

I am so glad that he has taken hold because even in that thirty minutes, there's so much more to be had there. And I do hope you explore it all. *g*

On the one hand, I'm sad about Max Martini getting on a new show. OTOH, that show looks like it was made just for me.
