From the sublime to the ridiculous
Nov. 16th, 2005 07:59 amIn a matter of a few weeks, I descend from something as wonderful as Come to Jesus to something as goofy as this new vid. Blood/Lust is here, and as always the site is password protected and due to some frustrating nonsense with people abusing my bandwidth limits, I'm no longer giving passwords out in public (not that this will stop the idiots, I just don't want to add to my stress). Clickety-click on the link at the main vids page (don't ask here). If you had the PW before, it hasn't changed.
It's Angel/Lindsey, to the song Club Foot by Kasabian, 18.8MB in the Divx avi format (and as usual I recommend VLC, linked at my site, because QT sucks dead rats through a straw and I really need to work with someone to find a way to get these compressed files to play well in everything). Summary: A tale of enduring love and romance between a vampire with big brass testes and a tiny Texan.
This was kind of a departure in a few ways for me. I've never titled a vid differently from the song. We never did that in Ye Olden Dayes, and most of the time the music I choose is more than sufficent or evocative for the title. But Club Foot left me like, WTF? What on earth does that evoke about this vid? So I just decided to title it as I might a story. Also, I did more constructed reality on this than I ever have before. I've never used much in the way of out of context clips, where a character is really reacting to someone else, and paired it with a different character. I'm too prosaic for that, I guess, but I had to here since there's not that much screen time for them, really. I don't know if all the different things worked, but I had fun making it.

Date: 2005-11-16 06:57 pm (UTC)I'm totally bowled over by this vid. I've just watched it twice, posted an insta-rec in my LJ, and I'm still pretty much speechless.
*hugs you and the vid*

Date: 2005-11-17 02:10 am (UTC)I like the zooms, and I thought the many parallel shots of A and L throughout the vid are neat. I think my favorite part is the sword intercuts at 2:26. Cool vid, Gwyn. And did I mention hot?

Date: 2005-11-17 06:24 am (UTC)Oh, sweeeeet.
The aggressiveness of the music matches very well with the badassery of the characters, and particularly with the violence that tended to be a large part of their interactions. I think it works very well that they are not always together in shots because, hey, they spent a lot of time in the show just talking about each other. Seems kind of normal for them, you know? The swoopy zooms also work really well with the musical cues.
It's also a lot of fun to get a tour of "Lindsey's Hair Through the Ages." I'm easily amused that way!

Date: 2005-11-17 09:29 pm (UTC)I think Lindsey's hair is almost like Scully's -- it would change about twice a season, so you could sort of chart where the episode/clip occurred in the series timeline. I think my favorite hair is still the long in 5th season -- not as polished, but I like how it frames his face.

Date: 2005-11-18 10:43 pm (UTC)I am still flummoxed over the dearth of Angel/Lindsey slash out there. For a short guy, he sure is sexy. ;) And the eyefucks alone make the relationship between him and Angel fun to watch. *rowr*.
I'm not very vid-savvy, but I will say that I thought the driving beat of the music meshed really well with the punch of the clips -- all the violence/sex/blood/sex. :)

Date: 2005-11-19 04:24 am (UTC)I love Angel/Lindsey together, and like Bone, I'm puzzled they're not slashed more, cause they had major chemistry! this vid is an excellent venue to show that; your choice of music and the editing emphasise their tumultuous relationship, and the

Date: 2005-11-21 06:57 pm (UTC)I have always thought that constructed reality was a strange thing to call vids, because to me, they were all constructed reality! But I get what people use it for -- essentially constructing a completely different situation using clips that may not be related at all. I think that both Sisabet's and Killa's versions of Closer are the best examples in that they've completely built whole stories where few of the clips are from canonical interactions between the characters. I can't say this vid does that as much, but it's the only one I've done that does it at all!

Date: 2005-11-21 12:17 am (UTC)That captured the two of them perfectly. And the music was great.
The violence, those looks they'd give one another, all that contact between the two of them. I always loved how Angel went straight for Lindsey no matter how many other people were in the room.
I know a couple people commented that there isn't a lot of Lindsey/Angel fics out there, but maybe they aren't looking in the right places. I've read some really great stuff (written quite a bit myself too).
heeheehee I could usually figure out exactly what part of the season the Lindsey clips were from by his hair.
