So much for that plan...

I was planning to head up to Vancouver, my second favorite city in the world, to run away for my birthday like I did last year, but we are actually getting snow here, and
claudia_yvr, with whom me and
myln were supposed to visit, said she woke up to half a foot up there and it's still flurrying. So now I don't know if we can make it, and it's long past the 72 hour cancellation deadline, so i will lose the entire fee for the room -- not cheap, since it's the Westin Bayshore. Am trying not to get my panties in a bunch, though, since the snow isn't sticking to roadways much here, and I don't know how bad the interstate is going to be tomorrow. I guess I'll bunch the panties after I see what it's like tomorrow. There really aren't much in the way of hills on this trip, though, so unless it's impassable just north of Bham, it shouldn't be too bad. I'm the girl who learned to drive in snow in Minn., after all.
People keep asking if there's anything I wish for for my b-day or christmas. Well, yes and no. I do have an Amazon wishlist, but I really don't mention it -- I hate feeling like I'm begging. It's mostly for my dad, because he can never figure out what to get. He likes to buy me small appliances. he's just that kind of a guy.
What I would really like (besides just to take some time to talk with someone and have some tea and tell them about my sister but I don't think most people want to do that) is mostly pretty simple. I would like to hear some feedback on a vid (especially the recent ones) or a story if you've never left feedback before, including concrit but if you enjoyed something, even better; I would love to just discuss by email or something a vid or story if you were inclined to say something detailed (many of my most wonderful online friends are people I met after writing them a letter about something they did, or them writing to me, and we kept conversing); I would love a story or ficlet or something like that for my favorite characters (they are not hard to find, as most are listed in my interests); I would love just a personal note or something so that we could chit-chat if you had the time or finding me on lj talk on the rare days I'm there to talk about life, the universe, and everything, because I so rarely ever chat with anyone anymore and I miss it; I would love, most especially, to hear from people I never get the chance to converse with because they are time-crunched or they've moved on to other fandoms and we don't see each other for various reasons.
Any of that would be the best present, really. Or world peace.

Date: 2006-11-27 06:47 am (UTC)Coffee, or tea, and some sort of spice bread or cookies, and conversation; getting to know each other; shared heartbreaks... (the alt.callahans motto is 'shared joy is increased, shared pain is lessened; thus do we refute entropy.)
I'm over on Bainbridge Island now. Not very mobile, though I have some good days (CFS/fibromyalgia/chronic daily intractable migraine/wrecked knee/ditto shoulder/chronic bronchitis/arthritis (osteo) - among other things - mean that I guess I do 'deserve' the Social Security disability payments. The new place is small, a cross between a studio and a one-bedroom, but I think I'd like to meet you, and invite you over for conversation.
my email is glinda, I'm at gmail (dot) (com)...
oh, and someone keeping me focused while I'm doing craft stuff is a good useful thing, as well.
take care of yourself, 'k?

Date: 2006-11-27 03:49 pm (UTC)Well, there is much more snow up north, but the roads are pretty clear. It sounds like I-5 is mostly having problems to the south, where they have more ice.
I left the apartment this morning and there was still a lot of snow on the pavement of the side streets and my parking lot, but there was no trouble on I-5. The worst part was the parking lot of the Park and Ride, but it was startlingly empty this morning. I think people either decided to extend the weekend or are making excuses to stay home. It took absolutely NO time to get to work this morning.
I think you should at least attempt the trip, and I don't think you'll have any problems, as long as you leave this morning; they're expecting a bit more snow this afternoon, they said, so my commute home should be interesting, but they're saying it'll all be gone by tomorrow.
I hope you make it and have a lovely, peaceful birthday tomorrow!

Date: 2006-11-27 05:27 pm (UTC)Actually, you might want to just check out the DOT cameras, if you haven't done so. Here's the flow map and camera at the Canadian border: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/border/I5_PeaceArchPark.htm.

Date: 2006-11-27 07:47 pm (UTC)I just rewatched The Female of the Species. It tickled me as much as the first time. You really have a terrific eye (or is that ear?) for matching clip and lyric.
My semester finally ended so I will have a bit more time over the holidays. Depending on your schedule, I'd love to catch up.

Date: 2006-11-27 07:54 pm (UTC)You've written many excellent stories, but this one will always have a special place in my heart because ... it's one of those stories where taking it apart and seeing how you put it all together doesn't diminish my love for it. In fact, looking at the technical elements of how it's crafted to me shows the love and care put in to writing it ... and that there's no Art without craftsmanship. The technical is the aesthetic.
And frankly, it's one damn hot story, too. Let's not forget that.

And, I'll be lighting a little candle tonight for you and sis_r.
Go out and have a rip-roaring dinner with M'lyn.

Date: 2006-11-27 09:54 pm (UTC)I will send up a fervent prayer for good driving weather for you -- I was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago on my birthday weekend, and drove through some yucky snow/sleet/rain. New all-weather tires are a great gift to the self.
::hugs you and mlyn and claudia::
Happy birthday!

Date: 2006-11-28 03:23 am (UTC)Also, as you know (but might not remember), I love Ron Perlman very much and there was much squeeing here in the house when 'The Magnificent Seven' were on! And the bonus was having Michael Biehn in the series as well - since he worked with one of my favourite actors ever - Linda Hamilton.
I would :)
