I am still sort of undecided about Yuletide, but I made some nominations anyway, and used one of my slots to help out a pal since I was so undecided--then promptly remembered things I wanted. So I had to fill out the wishlist form, though I highly doubt anyone will nominate one of them, at least.

I nominated Selfie (Eliza Dooley, Henry Higgs, Charmonique Whitaker), The Hitman's Bodyguard (Michael Bryce, Darius Kinkaid, Amelia Roussel, Sonia Kinkaid), and Political Animals (TJ Hammond, Margaret Barish, Agent Clark). My wish list includes Kings (Jack Benjamin), Logan (Logan and Laura Kinney), and most of all The Bronze (Lance Tucker).

What can I say, Hitman's Bodyguard and The Bronze are objectively stupid and terrible movies, but Hitman's Bodyguard is often hilarious and Sam Jackson and Ryan Reynolds have such amazing chemistry I didn't care, and the production values are high. I never totally understood the appeal of Reynolds (outside of Deadpool, and even that wears thin at times), but the salt and pepper in his stubble and hair and his impeccable clothing really worked for me, plus there's an insane, hilarious cameo from Richard E. Grant in the beginning that I'm convinced is basically Withnail 40 years later. And the Bronze is terrible, awful, inexcusable, but it has an amazing performance by Sebastian Stan that I feel like a Yuletide story could do A LOT with (and also he's naked for a decent minute of time). He'd be a great foil for a crossover if someone set him up with an Evans character (sometimes I hate that sort of thing, and sometimes I loooove it, like my gift a few years ago with TJ Hammond and Steve Rogers), especially someone like Jake Jensen or Johnny Storm.

This was gonna be the year I focused my attention on The Losers, so I was kind of devastated to find out it had topped out, and also Band of Brothers topped out too. Sigh.

That really truly sucks about BoB because "Alternate Universe - Modern Setting" is 360 fics and "Alternate Universe" is 143 fics and even after you filter out those tags, there's 36 fics of "tumblr au prompts" with tags like "roaring twenties!au." I am so, SO TIRED of modern AUs, especially for historical canons.

I think I realized last year about The Losers, and it was a real blow. Glad you found some other fandoms to nominate! (Would you mind adding Doug to your PA nomination?) And thank you for including Selfie! I've written it before and just loved getting to play in that world.

Frank Adler (Gifted) could be interesting especially if you factor in how Mary has no fucks to give but I think Lance's awfulness can be undercut by someone like Jake Jensen lol

There was a period this summer when the fandoms in which I routinely read had been in a bit of a lull, and I was scrolling semi-randomly through AO3 when I suddenly remembered that it is possible to read The Losers fic at any time of year, not just Yuletide.

I am very fond of The Hitman's Bodyguard! It seemed like everyone was having so much fun on that movie. And Salma Hayek is such a scene stealer omg.

I agree that The Bronze is a great Seb performance inside a truly terrible film. (I should probably have just fast-forwarded to the Seb bits, but it was like a train wreck I couldn't stop watching.) But crossing Lance with an Evans role is a genius idea.

I was all pumped for The Losers last year, and even nominated it, only to find out it was ineligible. So sad. But at least TJ is still an option.

Yeah, I don't know how I missed that last year, but I didn't...I guess I didn't have any ideas, so didn't think about offering, but of course, now I have an idea (not particularly well formed, though), and it's not eligible. I wish so much we could cut out AUs and crossovers--because that would definitely make it eligible again. There's only like 10% of Losers fic that's even readable.

Honestly, the idea of Jake and Lance together makes me laugh SO HARD. I suppose even if it had been eligible, finding someone to write or receive a Losers fic with that crossover would be almost impossible, so I suppose it's for the best. But then Johnny Storm could be pretty awesome too.

Frank would have no idea what to do with Lance. I think Frank would pack Mary and Roberta up and move to a different state if he thought he was into Lance.

Ha! Yeah. The shame of it is, at least 90% of it's utter crap, and the tiny percentage that's readable mostly comes from Yuletide. Some from the Ante Up challenge, but when you factor out crossovers and mundane AUs and shit, there's not a lot for someone like me to read.

I can only imagine that it must have been nonstop hilarity on that set. I am actually considering getting the dvd so I can see any extras they might have. I also especially appreciated that Darius was like the toxic masculinity antithesis--he's a hitman, so he's supposed to be cool and macho and all that crap, but he's just all about love and treating women decently and laughter and admitting feelings and loving life. And yeah, Sonia with her "puto motherfucker"s and calling him a cockroach all the time, it was great.

Yeah, he has a cameo in the beginning, and he's...very Withnail-y in the best possible sense. Even though it's only a few minutes, I felt like he and Ryan Reynolds were having a blast. Honestly, the whole cast just seems to be having a total ball in this, and you can kind of see why. It's manic and ridiculous and funny in the best way, but there are also great moments of seriousness too.

There's...sadly not a lot of good TJ fic out there. I mean, Sturgeon's law and everything, but a lot of the Sebastian roles have produced some higher percentages of drek, and when you factor out AUs and crossovers, you don't have much to begin with.

Or Lance would be on his best behavior to get Frank into bed but Roberta and Mary are onto him, and threaten him to not hurt Frank or they'll sic her grandmother on him.
