One of Steven Brust's lesser books (Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille) has a bit where a character talks about quitting smoking (as he does periodically) as Sherlock's sobriety. "What are you doing?" "I'm sitting here not smoking." As if it's an active but terribly tedious thing.

I'm glad to see you posting. I should do it more instead of just commenting when other people post.
