Sorry to be so absent lately. I've been lollygagging about many things, I just can't seem to get my head into functioning space these days. Which is sad because there is much TV to write about! Awake (wonderful), Southland (hmmm), Justified (AWESOME), and of course now Community's back (hallefreakinlujah), and White Collar just finished its season (conflicted). Also I am totally into Happy Endings and having a love-less than love with Revenge. Waiting and waiting for Fringe, which I would write about except that I feel too stupid to discuss it. Sometimes it gives me a headache.

Also I have a new foster puppersons, a little charcoal colored schnauzer who is super cute and looks kind of like a dark version of Gromit.

But the main thing I wanted to talk about is a plea for help. I volunteered to VJ a show at Vividcon called Weird Science. It was my idea, and now I'm in a panic because I'm realizing the vids I was thinking of probably wouldn't work! What I was thinking of was vids about skience (like Fringe, X-Files, House that sort of thing -- the goofy stuff that passes for science in tvland), about mad scientists (from Frankenstein to Walter Bishop and everyone in between), crazy skience run amok (like, well, the movie Weird Science), mutants and slayers and monsters and all that. Maybe there's even a good Spock vid out there... I just don't know. Do you?

Feel free to point me in the direction of some vids for this show, otherwise I'm going to be in serious hot water! I said in my notes that it's not about 'ships, but I'm totally open to vids where the 'ship is part of the skience (and if anyone has a Walter/Gene vid, I'm all over that one). So help me out, flist and droll! Tell me about some Weird Science vids!

Hmmm... would math help at all? If so, then what about the MVD vid "New Math"? It's Spock lecturing the crew of the Enterprise on several math problems. No ships, just Tom Lehrer and comedy mathematics. *g*

Her webpage is here:
http://www.iment.com/maida/
With the section about vids approx. halfway down.

The main vidpage is this one:
http://www.iment.com/maida/tv/songvids/chrono.htm

The Star Trek vidpage:
http://www.iment.com/maida/tv/songvids/stsong.htm

New Math is down under the "unenhanced" vids, although it looks like it's one of the ones where she did produce a higher-res version as well as the low-res version.

However, I'm not precisely sure of how to get the higher-res version. It looks like the one that the link in the right column sends you to, the one held by the Final Frontier archive, is an mp4 instead of an mpg, and she says on her main page that her higher-res versions are mpgs.

You might want to email her about it; her page footer says her contact email is maida@iment.com.

Good luck!

Probably you thought of this, but bradcpu's House vid. And I can't think of a specific one at the moment but I recall some Smallville and Stargate: Atlantis vids of this type, in case you have some contacts in those fandoms.

Hmmm... I know there's a wonderful SGA vid to the Dandy Warhols I Am A Scientist, but I'm forgetting the vidder at the moment. I could look it up for you on my other computer if no one else knows the one I'm thinking of.

Another SGA video celebrating caffeinated geekery is Stress, by the Clucking Belles (http://www.relative-obscurity.org/belles/cb.html)

I seem to remember a lovely Numb3rs vid celebrating all the math-filled effects shots of that show, but I'm blanking on both the music and the vidder on that one.

There are some wonderful vids for the film Real Genius. Laura Shapiro's happy-making festivid Gone is a recent one.

I'm forgetting the vidder at the moment, but an older version of She Blinded Me With Science for Scully in X-Files is niggling in my brain.

Hmmm... I'm vaguely remembering a few wonderful scienc-y Contact vids, but can't remember further details.

Likewise I'm vaguely remembering a wacky-science-y vid for the Ghostbusters movies.

If "science of deduction" and mnemonics count, then
Mind Palace (http://humansrsuperior.livejournal.com/204751.html), by [livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior (Sherlock BBC) might work.

Oh, that's great! I was kinda resigned that as much as I can't stand Sherlock (I know! don't kill me), I needed to have that in there if I could find one that wasn't a shippy or character study vid (which I was worried about), and this totally fits the bill. I think this will go great, thank you so much!

SO FUNNY that I mention this and you already have a vid. So, after the nightmare last year, would you even be willing to consider sending me a file? Or is it just too much to bear?

I feel good that two years on a row I actually had a vid in the style you were looking.

Just point me to the site that describes the format they need. I know it was weird for me but I'm up for it. :)

This is so much fun let's do this every year :P

Maybe there's even a good Spock vid out there...

New Math? :D

The first character I thought of was Scully, and then I thought, didn't [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett actually make a Scully vid long ago to "Weird Science?"

[livejournal.com profile] astartexx and [livejournal.com profile] xandra_ptvmade a whole bunch of awesome X-Files vids recently, including these two:

http://killabeez.livejournal.com/383777.html

I don't know of specific vids offhand, but maybe there's something for Big Bang Theory?

That is a really cool vid -- I've never seen one quite like that! I wish I didn't have so many Fringe vids, but that's definitely going on the alternate list in case one of the others is taken.

Hey Kiki -- I sent you a couple messages in various forms, but I have a feeling I didn't have good addresses or something. I wanted to use We Are All Connected for my vid show, and I was wondering if you would be able to send them the demuxed file if you have it? The instructions are here: http://www.vividcon.com/instructions.shtml though I imagine you already know that!
