New vid: Captain America Civil War trailer
Dec. 3rd, 2015 12:07 amI was working on another vid, busting my ass to meet a book deadline, and then the trailer happened…and then this happened. A million thanks to
killabeez for the incredible amount of help. You are the best.
This is 90 percent Captain America: Civil War trailer, so I'm putting it behind a cut, and needless to say, it's spoilery.

Date: 2015-12-04 09:30 pm (UTC)You know, it's weird, music has always been this huge thing for me, a friend used to call me "songclopedia" and I was really good at finding music to use for other people's vids. But the past few years that kind of went by the wayside, but now I'm subscribed to Spotify after a long time of avoiding that, and it's really helping me find indie and less well known artists. But the other thing is that TV shows these days ALWAYS use music in montages or the end of case tragic wrap-up scenes, and wow, that has turned out to be such a great resource. A lot of the folks who handle the music searches have access to things many of us don't, and so a lot of times I'll be watching a show and hear a tiny snippet of a song and just think, hm, that's interesting, I should check it out. My Kings vid this year for festivids was like that--they used one tiny line from the song, and the music was so faint in the background, but I went looking for it and it was like BAM! That's the song I've been looking for but couldn't find.
And the night the trailer dropped, I was watching it (thanks, east coast time!) over and over and thinking, wow, I want to vid this, but not just using the clips in the vid I was working on, I wanted something that felt like the trailer, and Blindspot was on (I rarely pay attention to most of the shows I watch, just cueing in when something needs attention, like music), and that song was in it, just a couple seconds of it, but I thought, that has the right energy, I wonder if the rest of the song is that good and it was! Killa edited it down for me so I wouldn't have to use too much other footage. Perfect timing all around.

This feels like the throughline of hope from the second movie, like the "way down" may be the beat down and the fall down, but it's also the bedrock. It's the foundation, not just of Bucky and Steve's relationship, but of Bucky and Steve, and possibly Sam and Natasha and even Tony, as people. And it's also playing again with the interaction of Steve with Captain America with government with politicians with America as an entity, which is a recurring theme in a lot of your vids that I've noticed, and that I think is especially pertinent given how the MCU has chosen to present Steve. And I will wrap this comment up now, because I think I have rambled enough, and I sincerely hope I was vaguely articulate and said something helpful. I just. I love your vids, but since I can't vid, I worry the way I talk about them may not convey how much they enhance my fannish experience.

Date: 2015-12-04 09:49 pm (UTC)I've seen some really good meta on Tumblr about how Tony sees friendliness as friendship because he just doesn't have a frame of reference, and doesn't understand that being friendly with your co-worker is not the same thing as being willing to die at your friend's hand because you can't save him. That you'd be with someone to the end of the line and that that's basically a vow of lifetime commitment. What I'm hoping and praying for is that in the beginning of the movie, the writers and directors will have given us a sense of a real friendship, so that the line won't land like a dead fish. That they'll do what Joss failed utterly and completely to do in four hours. My biggest fear is what's going to happen to Steve and Nat's friendship. I am hugely emotionally invested in that and it hurt to use those clips.
I'm thrilled that you noticed the parallels with some of the other vids, because in a way I felt like this was a bit of a companion to Orange Crush, but also a little bit of the opposite of Shelter, in that instead of bringing the four together, they're possibly being split up. But I'm going to hope not--especially if Steve and Bucky are together at least a little, it feels like there's more there--Steve does get what he deserves in that he gets Bucky back, at least a little bit. I'm just going to pray that they don't take it all away from him by killing him off, even temporarily. Some of what Evans has said makes me feel hopeful that what we're seeing in the trailer is the tip of the iceberg in terms of at least a few intimate moments with Steve and Bucky. And possibly with Sam, too.
Listen, it's not rambling. Vidders rarely get much in the way of comments on vids, and I get even less than most vidders, so believe me, it's really appreciated. I could talk about this stuff all day.
